‘Back, fit & Strong!’ - Shakhtar Donetsk’s Olanrewaju Kayode returns to action

The 25-year-old played for 19 minutes in Sunday's Ukrainian Premier League fixture; his first taste of action since May 19

Olanrewaju Kayode returned to action in Shakhtar Donetsk's 3-0 victory over Chornomorets on Sunday, and he has stated that he is ‘back, fit and strong’.

Prior to Sunday’s encounter, the Nigeria international played his last game on May 19, in Shakhtar’s 2-1 loss to Dynamo Kiev in last season's final Championship playoff match where despite the loss, his side clinched the top-flight title.

He sustained an injury during a training session in July and sat out pre-season friendlies, Ukrainian Super Cup, Uefa Champions League opener and the opening eight league games of the 2018-19 campaign.

But the former Austrian Wien striker made Paulo Fonseca‘s squad for Chornomorets game and made a 19-minute cameo as they secured their eighth league win of the season.

The Nigeria international, thankful, took to Instagram to share his delight at his return to action.

“Our Transformation is a result of God’s patience, there is a purpose in every trial, storm and battle,” he posted.

“My testimony is on the way. Back, fit and strong!”

Coming off an uninspiring temporary stint with Girona in Spain, Kayode moved to the Ukrainian champions on loan from Manchester City in the second half of last season after ‘administrative’ issues had blocked a move to French Ligue 1 side Amiens.

The 25-year-old saw his deal with the Donbas Arena outfit made permanent after a decent return of three goals in eight appearances ‎for Fonseca’s team who won a domestic double – Ukrainian Premier League and Cup titles.
