Campbell joined Lauren at Arsenal in 2001 and the duo who were members of the Invincibles won two Premier League titles and three FA Cups together under Arsene Wenger.

And Lauren, delighted with the new leap, has wished the former England international a successful start in dugout.

"Really happy for Sol Campbell. He has been working hard for this opportunity and I'm sure he'll put in all the necessary effort to succeed in the dugout, just as he did on the pitch. Good luck, my friend," he tweeted.

Campbell started his reign at the helm by watching Macclesfield Town defeat Exeter City 1-0 from the stands on Tuesday.
