Ajibola Otegbeye scores brace in Sunshine Stars friendly win

Sunshine Stars defeated Akure City 2-1 in a warm-up game played at the Akure Township Stadium on Wednesday.

A first half double from Ajibola Otegbeye gave Henry Abiodun’s men victory as they step-up their preparation for the resumption of the Nigeria Professional Football League.

Otegbeye put his side ahead in the third minute via a penalty kick after he was fouled in Akure City’s penalty area.

He doubled his team’s lead few minutes later after combining well with Omodu West. However, their advantage got reduced after Abiola Oriose pulled one back for Akure City before the half time break.

The second half produced no goals and two-goal hero, Otegbeye, states that the victory will go a long way in boosting the team’s morale ahead of the NPFL resumption.

“Glad with my goals but overall, our victory will spur us to do more and it will expose us to areas where we must improve before the restart of the league,” he said.

Sunshine Stars are swimming in the relegation waters with 28 points from 24 games to stay in the 18th position.

They welcome Abia Warriors to Akure for the continuation of the league which remains undecided.
