Three-time Africa referee of the year Bakary Papa Gassama will officiate Kenya versus Ethiopia Afcon qualifying match.
The highly competent Gassama, who officiated the Group A match between Mexico and New Zealand in the last Fifa World Cup, will be in charge of the game when Harambee Stars takes on Walya Antelopes on October 10 away.
The Gambian whistleblower will also be in charge of the Caf Champions League semi-final return leg match between Al Ahly against Horoya.
Interestingly, Gassama was the sole African representative (referee) in the last World Cup where he was supposed to be deputized by Kenyan Aden Marwa. Marwa was later struck off the list following reports of alleged involvement in a match-fixing scandal that was exposed by BBC.
Coach Sebastien Migne has summoned 21 players and nine on standby for Ethiopia’s games set for October 10 with the reverse fixture slated for four days later.
The squad has, among other names, Victor Wanyama of Tottenham, Brian Mandela, Allan Wanga and Paul Were, all who missed Stars last two games against Ghana and Malawi for various reasons.
