The Inter-Zonal semifinal playoffs have culminated with Altyn Asyr and 4.25 SC progressing to the final. Here is a recap of what happened in the second leg of the play-off ties.
4.25 SC 9-1 Home United (Aggregate: 11-1)
North Korean outfit 4.25 SC blew Singapore's Home United to smithereens in the second leg of their Inter-Zonal playoff tie with a 9-1 win on Monday which saw them advance to the final with a 11-1 aggregate score.
Though it was Home United who took the lead early on through Song Ui-Young, 4.25 SC put all doubts to bed in a spectacular showing. Om Chol-song levelled in the 23rd minute for them before Rim Chol-min gave them the lead seven minutes later. Om added his second in the 40th minute before scoring a penalty to grab a hat-trick just before half-time.
Shakir Hamzah of Home United was sent off and An Il Bom scored a penalty soon after to make it 5-1. Han Song-hyok then made it 6-1 and An scored his second to become the tournament's topscorer.
Son Phyong-il and Yun Il-gwang then made it 9-1 to seal a miserable night for Home United.
Altyn Asyr 2-0 Bengaluru FC (Aggregate 5-2)
Turkmen champions Altyn Asyr progressed to the AFC Cup Inter-Zonal final after a 5-2 aggregate triumph over 2016 finalists Bengaluru FC on Wednesday. Following up from the 3-2 win in India in the first leg, the Turkmen side hardly broke a sweat as they completed a 2-0 win in the second leg.
Altyn Asyr were rarely troubled thoughout the match as Sunil Chhetri & co. struggled. After a goalless first half, Altyn took the lead in the 50th minute when Annadurdyyev drove past a defender and unleashed a powerful left-footer that nestled in the back of the net.
In the 58th minute, Mekan Saparov fired in a thunderbolt of a shot from 30 yards which hit the woodwork and bounced back for Vahyt Orazsakhedov to slot in and make it 2-0.
Altyn Asyr saw out the game with ease and will now play 4.25 SC in the final.
