Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has mocked the relentlessness of the Premier League schedule amid a double injury blow ahead of the trip to Arsenal.

Captain Jordan Henderson and Naby Keita will miss the game due to respective hamstring injuries.

They join Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on the sidelines for the trip to The Emirates Stadium.

Henderson should resume training next week while Keita has missed the last two games against Huddersfield and Cardiff.

But despite their fitness concerns only being minor, Klopp has lamented the impact their absence will have on Liverpool's season.

"In football a not-too-serious injury still needs two, three, four weeks out," he told the media.

"And in the Premier League that means missing 20 games if we are lucky! We didn't have to rush it."

After facing fourth place Arsenal on Saturday, the Reds travel to Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League prior to hosting Fulham in the Premier League.

The club season then makes way for the international break which includes the climax to the group stage of UEFA Nations League - a new competition which has been heavily criticised by Klopp.

The German coach described the format as "the most senseless competition in the world" which unnecessarily risks the fitness of his players.

But ahead of the international fortnight Klopp is actually relishing the break in the schedule.

“The most intense period of the season is still to come," he added.

“We have an intense week, then international break - my favourite!

“We have the international period, then we go for it.

“We seem to play every two days until March! We won’t look for excuses, we never do, and try to get what we can.”
