Nigeria Women Football League side, Sunshine Queens have expressed their readiness to emerge as the 2015 Nigeria Federation Cup champions.
The 2014 Women’s Federation Cup runners-up spanked Rising Queens Academy 3-0 on Sunday to win the Ondo State Football Association Cup.
Media officer of the club, Francis Akinnodi told Goal after team’s victory that coach Kayode Olujohungbe’s ladies will leave no stone unturned to ensure that they come out on top in the national finals.
“Winning the final is a great feat for us notwithstanding that it was against our feeders’ team. Sincerely speaking, they [Rising Queens] are a very good side because they gave us a great fight which is good for us ahead the new league season,” Akinnodi told Goal.
“We now look forward towards playing the national finals and we have what it takes to emerge as champions because we have fortified our squad.
“Our team boast of young and solid squad. For instance, Yakubu Aminat formerly of Rivers Angels and was a threat to us in last season’s final is now with us. She got a brace in the final on Sunday and we expect her to continue with the form. “
Aside from the strength of our team, we will also be playing some grade A games to keep the squad fit and ready towards having a very profitable season.
He praised the new Technical Director of the agency Paul Ashworth for his tactical input in making the team solid.
“The arrival of Paul Ashworth has been a blessing to us because he has improved the side tactically. We now play with the European flair but I would suggest we add the physical aspect to it because this is Africa,” he concluded.
