Enyimba defeated Buffles du Borgou FC 3-0 in the first leg preliminary round of the 2015 Caf Champions League played at the Aba Towship Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Strikes from Daniel Etor, Kingsley Sokari and Peter Onyekachi were all Kadiri Ikhana’s side needed to march to victory despite losing a penalty kick in the second half of the highly entertaining tie.
The hosts showed their intent of winning by taking the game to their west African opponents when Andrew Abalogu floated a cross into the penalty area of Buffles with the goalkeeper coming to the rescue.
Enyimba raced into the lead in the seventh minute through Etor. Peter Onyekachi had raced through the opponents’ area before unleashing a cross which Etor thoroughly tapped into the net.
Kadiri Ikhana’s side could have doubled their in the 36th minute but blew away a glorious chance. Chinonso Okonkwo came face to face with the goalkeeper and rather than round him off to score, chose instead to pass to Onyekachi who tapped into an empty net from an offside position.
The Nigerian side continued their dominance in the second half but would have themselves to blame for missing clear cut chances.
There came another chance in the 77thh minute as the former African king failed to consolidate on their lead. They were awarded a penalty after Onyekachi who drove into the box was forced down. Substitute Nzube Anaezemba fired the resulting kick over the bar.
Sokari doubled his side’s lead after heading home from Bright Esieme’s cross with Onyekachi getting the third in the closing staged of the match.
Buffles will hope to erase the deficit in the return leg billed for the Stade Municipal de Parakou, Benin in a forth night.
