Enyimba are still firmly in the title race, insists Aliyu

The People's Elephants' midfielder has urged his teammates not give up hope of retaining the title they won last year

Enyimba defensive midfielder Razaq Aliyu has maintained that his side are not out of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) title reckoning just yet.

The reigning league champions took a step in the right direction for the title race on Wednesday when they held Warri Wolves to a goalless draw at the Warri City Stadium.

The seven-time NPFL winners are five points adrift leaders Wikki Tourists, with one game in hand.

Razaq has however refused to rule his side out of the race saying the title contention is still far from over.

"We are still firmly in it (title contention), we won last weekend and then drew in Warri. That is four points in two straight games," Aliyu told Goal.

"We cannot give up, not just yet. You shouldn't rule out. Football can be very unpredictable.

"The team will work hard to win the  remaining matches then if luck is on our side we will be crowned champions again," he added.

Paul Aigbogun's men play Lobi Stars in their next match at the Aper Aku Stadium on Sunday.
