Sunshine Stars' Afeez Aremu looking to arrest poor form against Ifeanyi Ubah FC

The midfielder still holds hope that the side can win the NPFL title, despite an inconsistent season and a result against the Anambra Warriors will be a huge help
Sunshine Stars’ midfielder Afeez Aremu called for his team to showing “fight spirit” ahead of the Sunday’s NPFL game FC Ifeanyi Ubah at the Akure Township Stadium.

The Owena Waves are yet to win a game this season and suffered a setback on Wednesday after being defeated 2-1 by MFM FC in Lagos, a result which keeps them in the relegation zone.

The midfielder, however, is still carrying belief and insists the squad have the quality to produce the goods in Sunday’s vital clash, as the team look to win the league.

"We have to keep our heads up, work hard and show fighting spirit against Ifeanyi Ubah to show we are not a weak side as people think,” Aremu told Goal.

"We need step up our game and make the fans happy. We have to react. We can't play like this on Sunday otherwise we will lose.

"We have questioned ourselves, talked to each other and I am positive the result will start coming.

“As it stands, we are in the relegation zone and we can't continue like this.”

Commenting on the sack of coach Samson Unuanel, the former Sharks player said the tactician was not responsible for the team’s poor form while dismissing claims that the team lacks quality players.

“Coach Unuanel was not our problem,” he continued “We have good players to win the league.

“All we need is a little time to get back to shape and I can assure you that we will bounce back against Ifeanyi Ubah FC,” he concluded.
