Sunshine Stars are Gold Cup Champions

The Akure based outfit got a morale boosting title win ahead of the Nigeria Professional Football League season to start in February

Sunshine Stars Football Club of Akure have emerged the winner of the maiden edition of Gold Cup Pre-Season Tournament defeating FC Ebedei of Sagamu  2-0 in the final on Saturday.

The Ondo state based football outfit topped the table with five points at the end of the three-day championship staged at the Otunba Dipo Dina International Stadium, Ijebu Ode. 

Kingsley Eduwo of Sunshine got the curtain raiser in the 5th minute after profiting from a defensive blunder to beat FC Ebedei’s goalkeeper John Chisom. Former Enugu Rangers’ pacy attacker Oduokpe Oghogho made it 2-0 in the 62nd minute of the keenly contested encounter.

In the other game, Prime Football Club spanked Crown Football Club of Ogbomoso 3-1 to finish as runners-up with 4 points.

Prime striker, Christopher Akpough haunted Crown with a brace in the 4th and 46th minute before their Ghanaian import Bright Moses sealed victory for the Oshogbo side in the final 12 minutes.

Ibeh Christian scored Crown’s only goal via penalty kick.
