Vietnamese club Ha Noi T&T's striker Samson Kayode has been granted a Vietnamese passport and will take on a Vietnamese name, Ha Noi Son.
With current regulations stipulating that each club in the V-League is only allowed to register four foreign players in their team, Kayode’s adopted nationality will allow his club to register one more foreign player in his stead next season.
Widely perceived as the best striker in the V-League, the player was once pursued by Spanish top flight club Atletico Madrid, only for Ha Noi T&T to block the move as Kayode had already signed a pre-contract with them.
The joint top-scorer of 14 goals in the V-League for the 2012/13 season together with teammate Gonzalo Marronkle, Kayode could now represent Vietnam internationally.
However it is unlikely the Nigerian will receive a call-up to the national team, as Vietnam Football Federation has always been reluctant to use naturalised players.
Kayode previously played for Than Quang Ninh and Dong Thap FC prior to his move to Ha Noi T&T.
