Russian side Amkar Perm hand Izunna Uzochukwu three-year deal

The defensive midfielder has left Danish champions FC Midtjylland for more playing time and as expected, more money in Russia
Russian Premier League side Amkar Perm have signed Nigerian midfielder Izunna Uzochukwuon a three-year deal.

The 25-year-old joins the Russians on a free transfer after a successful spell at Danish Superliga champions FC Midtjylland.

The defensive midfielder, who joined Mitdjylland in 2007, was an important member of the league champions squad where he notched up 172 appearances.

He, however, says it is time to face a new challenge at the Russian side that finished 11th in a 16-club competition last season.

“I had a successful time at FC Mitdjylland but decided to experience a new challenge after clinching the Superliga title. I am looking forward to playing in the Russian Premier League and achieving success with Amkar Perm,” said Uzochukwu.

Izunna says he is open to play for the Nigeria national team after reports in Denmark suggested he wanted to play for the Danish national team.

“Playing for the Super Eagles is the dream of every Nigerian footballer. I never thought of playing for another country and I hope one day I will get the chance to serve my fatherland.”

Uzochukwu is currently on pre-season training with his team in Austria.
