Commentary

It's a draw that feels like a win for Valencia, then, and a deflating result for Atletico before the international break. Simeone's men need to tighten up when they get back if they're not to have their crown snatched away from them. That's all for now. Goodbye!
Valencia and Atletico share a point apiece then, and it's one that lifts Valencia into the top half of the table. Bordelas will be very pleased with how his team kept going even when the game looked beyond them. Atletico stay fourth on 23 points, four points behind leaders Madrid. It's a blow to their attempted title defence, for sure, but it needn't become more than that.
Valencia have snatched a draw against Atletico thanks to two late goals from the substitute Duro! Atletico edged ahead through Suarez's first-half strike and looked home and dry once they went 3-1 up on the hour mark. Valencia didn't give up though and made the champions pay for switching off right at the death. Atletico must be kicking themselves.
90' + 8' FULL-TIME: VALENCIA 3-3 ATLETICO MADRID
90' + 7' Atletico get the game started again but there's no time for them to reply. That's it!
Gonçalo Guedes
Assist
Valencia
90' + 6' What a delivery that was from Guedes! Simeone has his head in his hands in the technical area. Atletico have tossed two points away.
Hugo Duro
Goal
Valencia
90' + 6' GOAL! VALENCIA 3-3 ATLETICO MADRID! Duro grabs his second goal in added time to make Mestella erupt! Guedes swings in the free-kick and Duro is unmarked at the near post to chest it past Oblak!
A. Griezmann
Yellow Card
Atlético Madrid
90' + 5' Griezmann gives away a cheap free-kick on Guedes near his own corner flag. What can Valencia do with this?
Y. Musah
Yellow Card
Valencia
90' + 4' Musah picks up a late booking for a poor challenge on Griezmann. Atletico are almost there.
90' + 3' Valencia are throwing players forward now, roared on by their home fans. Herrera blocks Koindredi down Valencia's left, but the hosts can't do much with the free-kick.
José Gayà
Assist
Valencia
90' + 2' Gaya's cross for that goal was perfectly placed and Valencia have a lifeline. They couldn't, could they? Simeone throws his arms up in frustration. His team are making things unnecessarily difficult for themselves.
Hugo Duro
Goal
Valencia
90' + 2' GOAL! VALENCIA 2-3 ATLETICO MADRID! Well, that makes things interesting! Atletico give away possession cheaply and Valencia rush forward. Duro races into the box to convert Gaya's wonderful cross on the volley.
Š. Vrsaljko
Yellow Card
Atlético Madrid
90' Vrsaljko's booked for tripping Foulquier down Valencia's right. Atletico deal with the free-kick. They've got seven more minutes to hold out.
89' Atletico are winding down the clock in typical fashion. Valencia force another corner off Hermoso but can't lay a glove on them.
João Félix
R. De Paul
Atlético Madrid
87' De Paul also goes off. Joao Felix enters the fray for Atletico.
H. Herrera
L. Suárez
Atlético Madrid
87' Suarez gets the last few minutes off having grabbed Atletico's opening goal. The Mexican midfielder Herrera is his replacement.
Manu Vallejo
O. Alderete
Valencia
86' Alderete is Valencia's last player to go for now. Vallejo, a forward, replaces him.
86' Valencia earn a third corner but Atletico are staying firm. It's Simeone's turn to make changes now.
K. Koindredi
Carlos Soler
Valencia
85' Valencia also sacrifice Soler. The French midfielder Koindredi is on for him.
Hugo Duro
Hélder Costa
Valencia
85' Costa is replaced as Valencia go for broke. Duro comes on for him.
84' Valencia are still pushing, turning their corner into another one, but it's probably too late for them. The hosts are making a few more changes anyway.
83' Kondogbia outmuscles his opponent and allows Atletico to get back to keeping possession. The champions soon give the ball away again though. Valencia continue to probe and Guedes forces Oblak to tip the ball out for a corner at his near post.
81' Valencia look short of ideas as Atletico are staying compact. The visitors come away with the ball and eventually play their way out of their half.
79' Foulquier spots an opportunity to shoot from the edge of the box and takes it, sending the ball whistling over the crossbar.
78' The game's devolved back into a series of niggly fouls after opening up at the start of this half. Suarez spots Cillessen off his line and goes for goal from near the halfway line. It's an easy catch for the Valencia goalkeeper.
Hugo Guillamón
Yellow Card
Valencia
76' Guillamon gets more than a talking to actually. The referee shows the midfielder a yellow card for his foul on Suarez.
75' By bringing Kondogbia on, Atletico are clearly shutting up shop. Guillamon gets a talking to for blocking Suarez's jink past him.
G. Kondogbia
Á. Correa
Atlético Madrid
73' Atletico make a substitution. Correa waves to the away fans in the top tier of the stadium. Kondogbia, who joined Atletico from Valencia last season, comes on to jeers from the home supporters.
72' Griezmann stops Soler in his tracks in Atletico's half and gives away a free-kick.
70' Cillessen catches Correa's blast straight at him from inside the box. Up the other end, Guedes fires high and wide from range.
69' Diakhaby gets a free-kick in his own half as Suarez leaves the defender on the turf. The Valencia fans are not best pleased.
67' Valencia earn another corner. Again Atletico hold out. After being quite a slow affair in the first half this game has picked up drastically.
Marcos André
D. Wass
Valencia
65' Wass also exists the game. Marcos Andre is his replacement.
Y. Musah
U. Račić
Valencia
65' Valencia are making two changes. Racic is first to head off. The teenage American midfielder Musah comes on.
64' Wass hits the crossbar for Valencia! The Dane gets on the end of the corner in the centre of the box and arrows an effort against the woodwork. Atletico survive and block Costa's shot from the left of the box. Valencia get another corner and Atletico scramble this one away.
62' Atletico now have breathing space after their two goals in three minutes. Valencia try to pull a goal back straight away as Racic's shot from way out rebounds off Gimenez and out for a corner.
Š. Vrsaljko
Goal
Atlético Madrid
60' GOAL! VALENCIA 1-3 ATLETICO MADRID! After a lengthy wait Vrsaljko's goal stands! Suarez wasn't offside from Griezmann's throughball so the question was whether the Atletico substitute was offside when Suarez smuggled the ball to him. He wasn't so he can celebrate!
60' Atletico have bundled the ball in the net but this time the offside flag is up. Suarez gets hold of Griezmann's ball over the top to flick it in the direction of Vrsaljko who forces it over the line. The officials immediately signal that the goal will be reviewed.
59' Griezmann has now scored his 10th goal against Valencia in 20 matches against them. It's his highest tally against any opponent in LaLiga. He just loves facing Valencia.
A. Griezmann
Goal
Atlético Madrid
58' GOAL! VALENCIA 1-2 ATLETICO MADRID! Griezmann gives Atletico the lead again with a lovely solo strike! Valencia overcommit forward and the Frenchman pounces, dribbling through the middle of the pitch before spanking a left-footed shot into the top left corner from just wide of the D.
56' Diakhaby lofts the ball forward from centre-back and it causes Atletico some difficulties around their own box. Atletico eventually play their way out though...
54' Atletico see the corner out without much incident but still they're rattled. From almost going 2-0 up they've now been pegged back.
53' Chance for Valencia! Foulquier gallops forward and glides past two or three Atletico defenders to get into the box. Oblak slides off his line to clear before the Valencia right-back can pull the trigger. Valencia have a corner, and suddenly the momentum.
52' That Valencia goal should liven this game up. Atletico have failed to keep a clean sheet in consecutive league matches this season. That's one way to make your title defence more difficult.
S. Savić
Own Goal
Atlético Madrid
50' GOAL! VALENCIA 1-1 ATLETICO MADRID! Valencia whip the ball in from the left and Wass' flick on at the near post doesn't find a teammate. Guedes smashes it back across goal from the right of the box. Oblak's save bounces off Savic and into the net. That'll go down as a Savic own goal.
48' Gimenez scythes down Guedes and hands Valencia a free-kick in a central position. There's a delay in taking it as Suarez is down injured in Valencia's half. Valencia loft it towards the far post and Atletico win the second header.
47' Atletico get the second half off to a great start as Correa centres the ball from the right. Griezmann arrives late in the box to nod wide. Simeone drops to his knees in exasperation.
46' Atletico get the second half going. No changes at half-time.
Atletico have never gone seven away games without losing to Valencia in the Spanish top flight, but that's exactly what they're on course to do at the moment. Valencia haven't really tested their visitors at all yet. Bordalas will have to come up with something to unsettle Atletico if they're not to leave Mestalla with all three points.
A fairly pedestrian first half of football ends with Atletico 1-0 up. The champions haven't been great and have had to adapt to Trippier's early injury, but Suarez took the game's only golden chance so far. Valencia were very passive until they went behind but have livened up a bit since.
45' + 3' HALF-TIME: VALENCIA 0-1 ATLETICO MADRID
45' + 2' Gaya shrugs off the attention of Correa to work the ball back towards the middle for Valencia. Guillamon lines up a shot from range and drags it wide of the left-hand post.
45' Valencia patiently build their latest attack but Atletico are compact and will stand for no nonsense. There'll be two minutes added onto the end of this half.
43' Suarez is penalised for knocking over Guillamon during an aerial challenge. Valencia keep the ball moving and Oblak plucks Foulquier's speculative cross out of the air.
41' Bordalas gets off the bench to give his team some encouragement. Vrsaljko fires in another cross from the right that Valencia clear.
39' Valencia are growing into the game. Gaya skies a first-time cross from the left.
37' Valencia have to be a little more proactive now. The hosts have only had 35 per cent of the ball and Guedes' shot from range is their only attempt on goal so far.
Á. Correa
Assist
Atlético Madrid
35' Correa's pass to find Suarez there was a cute one. Atletico have looked laboured in this first half but they're ahead thanks to that flash of quality.
L. Suárez
Goal
Atlético Madrid
35' GOAL! VALENCIA 0-1 ATLETICO MADRID! Suarez gives Atletico the lead with a clinical finish! The Uruguayan bursts past Diakhaby to dart into the box after receiving Correa's pass and slots past Cillessen towards the bottom right corner. The ball rebounds into the net off the post.
33' A dodgy Valencia backpass almost puts their defence in trouble. Diakhaby goes safety-first and lumps it away from their goal.
31' Vrsaljko's shot-cum-cross is again blocked by Valencia. Carrasco checks inside on his right foot and lashes into the side netting from the left of the box.
30' Guedes wags his finger at the officials as he catches Savic with a stray boot and the decision goes against him. It's an obvious free-kick.
29' Carrasco rushes into space and finds the run of Correa. Valencia intercept the Argentine's cross from the left of the box.
27' Valencia get their first shot on goal. Guedes lets rip from about 25 yards out, forcing Oblak to dive to his left to keep it out.
26' Guedes races after a pass down the right but Atletico have it covered. Valencia have offered precious little going forward as of yet.
25' Valencia take the corner short and Oblak claims the eventual ball in.
24' There hasn't been very much goalmouth action in this game so far if we're being charitable. Costa tries to inject some impetus by darting down the left and knocking the ball against Savic to earn Valencia a corner.
22' Diakhaby makes a thumping connection to clear Carrasco's deep cross. Atletico are edging possession but they're finding Valencia hard to break down.
20' Atletico earn a free-kick in the centre of the pitch while Carrasco will take. The Atletico players lurk just outside the box and jockey for position. Valencia win the first header and play the ball straight into the hands of Oblak up the other end.
19' Atletico have a shot from distance by Hermoso blocked. Carrasco centres from the left and Valencia clear.
17' Valencia's attempts to play through the middle don't work out so the hosts rebuild from the back. There's an entertaining racket going on among the fans around Mestalla.
15' Carrasco darts in behind to reach Hermoso's ball over the top and crosses low for Griezmann who swipes wide. Valencia manage to deal with the chance. Correa's low, long-range effort is kept out by Cillissen seconds later.
13' Suarez races after an Atletico punt towards the left corner flag but is unable to keep the ball in play.
12' Soler swings in the free-kick from the left and Atletico head it away before breaking forward on the counter. Valencia manage to get back quickly enough to put a stop to it.
11' This game is already a niggly affair. Gaya cries out in pain as Vrsaljko kicks high at a bouncing ball and catches the Valencia captain's leg. The referee wades in quickly to defuse the situation and award Valencia a free-kick.
10' Koke works the ball nicely to Vrsaljko whose cross is headed out for a throw-in. Atletico are penalised for Savic's late challenge on Wass.
Š. Vrsaljko
K. Trippier
Atlético Madrid
8' Here's that enforced Atletico change. Vrsaljko takes Trippier's place at right wing-back.
8' Valencia are playing a 4-5-1 while Atletico are lined up in a 3-4-3 formation. Trippier's arm is put into a sling. He'll play no more part in this game.
7' Play continues for now but Vrsaljko is warming up. It looks like Trippier will have to go off.
5' Costa barges into Trippier near Atletico's corner flag while chasing after a loose ball and the England wing-back lands awkwardly off the pitch. He signals that he needs treatment for his shoulder.
3' Cillessen booms a goal-kick forward and Valencia win the second ball. Racic's crossfield pass is intercepted by Atletico.
2' Atletico start on the front foot as Gaya pokes Trippier's cross from the right out for a throw. The visitors try to test Atletico again and Suarez is gently clipped on the edge of the box. He halfheartedly appeals, knowing a penalty won't be given.
1' The hosts Valencia get this game going!
The two club captains Koke and Gaya embrace and share warm words in the tunnel before the team come out onto the pitch at a half-full Mestalla. This should be a decent game.
Valencia haven't won any of their last 13 matches against Atletico in LaLiga since a 3-1 victory in October 2014, their longest winless streak against Los Rojiblancos in the competition's history. Their boss Bordalas has also faced Atletico eight times in LaLiga without winning a single game. Atletico should feel confident then, but will the hosts finally break their duck?
There are two changes to Valencia from their victory over Villarreal. Diakhbaby comes in at centre-back to replace the injured Gabriel. Soler starts ahead of Marcos Andre. Atlertico are unchanged from their 3-0 victory over Real Betis last week.

Visiting Mestalla are Atletico who are unbeaten in their last four LaLiga matches, having scored at least twice in each of them. The defending champions can go back up to second in the table with a victory here, just two points behind league leaders Real Madrid. Diego Simeone will want his team to put their bad midweek behind them and catch up with their cross-city rivals.
Valencia enter this game 11th in LaLiga after beating Villarreal 2-0 here last time out. Jose Bordalas' side have won five of their last eight games at Mestalla in LaLiga, as many as they had done in their previous 16 matches in the competition. If they can keep their good home form going, they can have high hopes for what they can achieve this season.
