That's all for now though, goodbye!
The result means that Southampton climb to 13th in the table - but, more importantly, they can take the confidence from this and look to an even more ambitious future. City, meanwhile, will be frustrated not to have found an equaliser but their performance certainly wasn't a reason for worry: they remain second and will look to continue to consolidate that spot.
Southampton secure an improbable 1-0 win after a magnificent rearguard performance in the second half! The hosts began with intent and pressed City high up the pitch, collecting their reward early on when Zinchenko surrendered possession to Adams who lofted it over Ederson from 40 yards. However, City quickly took control and threatened on multiple occasions through Mahrez and Sterling before half time. It was then more of the same in the second period as the away side bombarded the Southampton box. Stephens and Bednarek bravely repelled most of the attacks and McCarthy was inspired in goal to fend City off and secure a brilliant victory for the hosts.

50' City win an early corner and David Silva swings it towards the near post where Laporte meets it to glance a faint header across goal that narrowly evades all the attackers.
48' Redmond was a key part of Southampton's aggressive, pressing approach in that first half. He won possession back four times and added to that with two tackles - his continued energy will be much needed.
46' Southampton get the second half underway.
Southampton's best chance of snatching victory rests on their continued ability to press high up the pitch. If they can keep up their energy levels and disrupt City for the full 90 they have every chance of securing a positive result.
Southampton go into the break with a surprise 1-0 lead in a thrilling first half! The hosts endured a nervy start, but quickly settled after that by pressing City high up the pitch. This approach proved fruitful when Armstrong dispossessed Zinchenko, enabling Adams to lob a brilliant finish over Ederson from 40 yards. However, City inevitably rallied and they piled the pressure on to equalise but through a combination of McCarthy and the post, the hosts held on to take a lead into the interval.

39' David Silva is down with a head injury, but it looks as though he'll be able to continue.

35' Redmond eagerly wins back possession inside the City half again and drives at goal before lashing a wild shot high over the bar.

S. Armstrong
Assist

C. Adams
Goal
16' SOUTHAMPTON TAKE THE LEAD! 1-0! Zinchenko loses possession inside his own half again and Armstrong pokes it to Adams, who hits a stunning first-time lob from 40 yards over the top of Ederson and in! What a brilliant way for the striker to net his first goal for the club!

Adams lashes a shot across goal and it finds its way to Remond, who stands on the ball with an open goal at his mercy before City clear!
5' This has been an ominous start for Southampton: City have nimbly evaded their press frequently and they're passing it crisply into attacking areas. The hosts might want to try and just survive this opening spell of pressure.
3' A neat pass from Jesus unleashes Bernardo Silva down the right-wing and he gets to the byline before cutting a cross back into the six-yard box that Ward-Prowse just about manages to hack away from harm.
2' City begin with intent as David Silva attempts to jink his way down the left flank, but Walker-Peters races across to put in a firm tackle and win back possession.
1' Manchester City get the first half underway.
The players are emerging from the tunnel and kick off is just seconds away!
