Enyimba played out a goalless draw with Rayon Sports in Sunday’s Caf Confederation Cup quarterfinal, first leg at the Stade Régional Nyamirambo, Kigali.
The People Elephants were winners of the Caf Champions League in 2003 and 2004 and had hoped to step up their bid for title glory but only managed to ensure a barren draw with the hosts.
Usman Abdullah’s men dominated possession with hopes of earning a first leg lead but the Gikundiro stood firmly against visitors, denying them a way through their back line.
FT: Rayon 0-0 Enyimba. We do the job in Kigali. Tough game, clean sheet. Now for the return leg. pic.twitter.com/o3AtF1zw4H— Enyimba FC (@EnyimbaFC) September 16, 2018
Having being held to a drab 0-0 draw, the Nigerian giants must see the better of the Rwandan side in the second leg of the quarter-final in the pursuit of a place in the semi-final.
As it stands, Enyimba must avoid conceding when they lock horns with Roberto Oliveira’s men next week at the Aba International Stadium on September 23.
