The Brazilians thrashed Cote d'Or in Tshwane as they sealed their qualification to the group stages in style

Mamelodi Sundowns advanced into the group stages of this year’s Caf Champions League with a 16-1 aggregate win over Cote d’Or on Friday night.

On the night, the Brazilians recorded a convincing 11-1 win over their Seychelles opponents – their biggest victory to date in the continental competition.

Pitso Mosimane named what many would deem his strongest possible line-up with the likes of Oupa Manyisa, Andile Jali, Kennedy Mweene all cracking the nod.

Sphelele Mkhulise also made the starting line-up to support Sibusiso Vilakazi and Themba Zwane.

Zwane fired the Brazilians ahead nine minutes into the encounter before Gaston Sirino doubled the lead with an easy tap-in 10 minutes later.

Sibusiso Vilakazi then scored a brace in quick succession between the 21st and 24th minutes to make it 4-0 to the home side as Cote d’Or continued to chase shadows.

Sundowns then made it 5-0 through Vilakazi's 39th-minute strike after Cote d'Or had failed to clear their lines inside their penalty area.

But before Vilakazi’s goal, Mosimane was forced to replace the injured Mkhulise for Anele Ngcongca who came on to play in a more advanced role.

There was still time for Thapelo Morena to find the back of the net as he nodded home to make it 6-0 just before the break.

At this stage, the tie was already over, but Sundowns players were more determined to pile more misery on Cote d’Or, who were certainly not in the game from the first whistle.

Motjeka Madisha made it 7-0 two minutes after the restart with a well-struck shot from inside the Cote d’Or box.

Sundowns’ dominance continued in the 57th minute as Ngcongca made it 8-0 after storming into the opposition’s box, much to the delight of the home fans out in the stands.

With 16 minutes to go, Zwane completed his brace, and in the process making it 9-0 to Sundowns.

Beniot then scored an unfortunate own goal three minutes later to extend Sundowns’ lead to 10-0 on the night.

Cote d’Or stunned the hosts with a goal of their own in the 79th minute when Voavy fired past Mweene.

Substitute Mauricio Affonso made his debut very late in the game, and he joined the party with Sundowns’ 11th of the night to make it 11-1 to the home side.

Ultimately, Sundowns ran out 16-1 aggregate winners and sealed their place into the group stages of the 2019/20 Caf Champions League campaign.
