Fulham v Brighton & Hove Albion Live Commentary, 30/08/2022

2 - 1
A. Mitrović (48)
L. Dunk (55 og)
A. Mac Allister (60 pen)
Craven Cottage

That's all from us, we hope you enjoyed the game. Until the next one, goodbye!
That second win of the season propels Fulham up to sixth in the table in front of a bouncing Craven Cottage. Brighton remain in fourth, but showed some signs that they're not quite the finished article yet in this game, and both sides have still had exceptional starts to the season regardless.
Mitrovic lead the line with aplomb for Fulham, scoring his fifth goal in five games and being a thorn in Brighton's side all game long. He amassed three shots, two of which were on target, as well as a key pass, and also contested a game-high 31 duels, winning 17 of these. He also completed five successful dribbles, had four touches in the Seagulls box, and won four fouls. Nuisance.
The full-time whistle goes, and Fulham hold on to beat the high-flying Seagulls at the Cottage! Those two goals early in the second half, one of which unfortunately came from the foot of Brighton captain Dunk, sent the hosts on their way, as they cut through the visitors with relative ease. Brighton pulled one back through a VAR-awarded penalty, but in reality never looked close to turning things around in a rather disappointing performance for Graham Potter's side.
90' + 8' Still no full-time whistle, as Brighton launch a plethora of long throws into the Fulham box, but all are repelled by the hosts' defence!
90' + 6' Following a free-kick to Fulham, a deflection sends the ball looping towards Kebano in space. He tees up Mitrovic, who turns Webster and races away, but Mitoma recovers to win the ball back!
90' + 4' WIDE!!! Risky business at the back again from Brighton, as Websters passing is again caught out! Cairney races onto the loose ball, but his first-time pass across the face of goal finds no-one!
90' + 3' CHANCE!!! A poor backpass from Webster has Sanchez in all sorts of trouble, as Mitrovic chases him down before he can get the ball away. It's back with Webster, who can't keep the ball in play, and the hosts get another corner!
N. Chalobah
H. Reed
90' + 1' Fulham make only their second change of the match, bringing off Reed for a similarly defensive anchor in midfield, in the form of Nathaniel Chalobah.
90' + 1' We're into SIX minutes of added time here, which is plenty for the visitors to steal an unlikely equaliser!
90' Cairney looks to keep the ball down the right, but back comes Welbeck to bring him down for a free-kick, which the Fulham captain will be in no hurry to take.
89' From a short corner, Lamptey aims a cross onto Webster's head, but he's caught in a poor position to aim from and the ball skews wide.
88' OFF THE POST!!! Lamptey dinks a ball into the box, and Welbeck flicks it on. Ream, for some reason, leaves it, allowing an unmarked Undav to send a half-volley from close range beyond Leno, but it hits the post! Welbeck follows in, but Ream recovers with a flying challenge to force a corner!
87' Mac Allister has been quietly effective in midfield for Brighton, scoring the penalty with his only shot and winning all of his duels in the air. Defensively, he's won the ball 14 times, including from five tackles and three interceptions, and has been a stand-out in this very flat performance from the Seagulls.
85' Mitrovic looks to turn Dunk as a loose ball bounces past the pair, but he's held back by the Brighton captain and wins a free-kick on halfway.
H. Reed
Yellow Card
83' Reed loses out to Mac Allister in midfield as a Fulham counter-attack grinds to a halt, and he frustratedly brings Brighton's Argentine playmaker down for a free-kick, and is subsequently booked.
81' Lamptey flicks the ball over the head of Kebano, but not Palhinha, who races in to win the ball off the diminutive full-back before he can advance further.
D. Undav
M. Caicedo
Brighton & Hove Albion
79' Caicedo clashes with Mitrovic on the far touchline, but not for long as he's brought off for Deniz Undav.
79' Mitoma's cross into the box is brought down by Gross, who attempts to turn and shoot but the ball is hoofed away by Ream!
T. Cairney
Andreas Pereira
78' Pereira has been superb playing in the number 10 position for Fulham, but comes off now for the club's actual number 10, and captain, Tom Cairney.
77' Pereira loses out to Mac Allister in midfield, but recovers well to nip in and win the ball back with a superb sliding tackle.
76' After Ream shepherds the ball out for a Fulham goal-kick, play stops as Robinson is down. He requires treatment too, giving the rest of the players a rest after a frenetic last few minutes.
74' Mitoma does brilliantly to get away from Tete, and his courage sparks a Brighton counter-attack. He races down the left to receive a return ball from Trossard, but Tete has recovered to slide in and put the ball over the sideline.
72' WIDE!!! Robinson plays the ball across to Mitrovic again, and he tees up De Cordova-Reid to his right. He can't capitalise though, and fires his first-time shot a fraction wide of the post!
71' SAVED!!! After Gross keeps possession for Brighton, he finds Mitoma, who in turn puts Trossard through on goal. He shoots on a tight angle, and the low shot draws a save from Leno at his near post!
70' Robinson floats the ball high to the far post for Mitrovic to attack, but the Serb sends his header wide of Sanchez's left post.
A. Robinson
Yellow Card
68' Mac Allister wins an aerial ball before finding Gross, who looks to play Lamptey in down the right. Robinson body-checks him, bringing down the Brighton substitute, and being shown a yellow card for the foul.
66' OVER!!! Good play from Fulham as Mitrovic finds Kebano out wide. He engages two defenders before teeing up Palhinha, but the midfielder can only send his effort floating over the bar!
T. Lamptey
J. Veltman
Brighton & Hove Albion
64' Veltman comes off at right-back too, with the more attack-minded Tariq Lamptey entering the fray in his position.
D. Welbeck
E. Mwepu
Brighton & Hove Albion
63' Mwepu is also withdrawn, and Danny Welbeck comes on to take his place up front.
K. Mitoma
P. Estupiñán
Brighton & Hove Albion
63' That goal's got Graham Potter's tail up, as he makes a triple change, the first of which sees Estupinan withdrawn for Kaoru Mitoma.
61' CHANCE!!! Almost another Brighton horror show as Sanchez comes for a De Cordova-Reid cross, misses it, and Kebano can shoot! It's a first-time volley on the turn, and he can't quite get it on target as it sails over the bar!
A. Mac Allister
Penalty Goal
Brighton & Hove Albion
60' GOOOAAALLL!!! Brighton are back in it!!! Mac Allister steps up and slots the ball into the bottom left corner, wrongfooting Leno in the process, and it's game on at 2-1!
59' We're off to the VAR screen to check for a possible penalty! De Cordova-Reid looks to have caught Estupinan in the box, causing the collision between him and Gross, and the referee points to the spot! Penalty coming up for the visitors!
57' A ball is chipped over the top by Mac Allister, but Estupinan and Gross collide in the box, with both Seagulls players hitting the deck!
P. Estupiñán
Yellow Card
Brighton & Hove Albion
55' Estupinan is shown a yellow card for a foul during that counter-attack, as he followed through in a tackle on Tete as the defender started the move.
L. Dunk
Own Goal
Brighton & Hove Albion
55' GOOOOAAAALLLL!!!! It's two!!!! A horror show for Brighton as their corner sees Fulham break away at speed. Pereira helps start the move, and is found again by Kebano as his teammates arrive, but his cross is deflected off a sliding Dunk, and the ball beats Sanchez to hit the back of the net!!! A woeful few minutes for Brighton, who now find themselves 2-0 down!!!
54' March looks to burst past Tete through the middle but can't get past the Fulham defender, and Trossard picks up the pieces trying to create space to shoot, but he too is thwarted by Robinson!
54' If anything, that goal will hopefully shake some life into this off-colour Brighton side. They need at least one goal now to preserve their unbeaten record!
52' March picks the pocket of Ream and bursts down the right. The cross finds no-one, and Mwepu collects on the opposing byline. But his cut-back is cleared by De Cordova-Reid!
50' Mitrovic has now scored four goals in three Premier League starts against Brighton. His goals against the Seagulls accounted for 27% of his total strikes in the 2018-19 campaign (three of 11), and currently amount to one of his five goals already in 2022-23!
N. Kebano
48' That cross was a peach from Kebano, who hit it so hard you'd think he was shooting, but it turned out to be the perfect ball for Mitrovic to fire it home!
A. Mitrović
48' GOOOOOAAAAALLLLL!!!! We have a breakthrough!!! After Pereira's cross is headed half-clear, Adarabioyo heads it back towards Kebano. He blasts the ball across the face of goal, and in slides Mitrovic to score for Fulham! Five in five for him, and it's 1-0 to the home side!
48' Pereira's free-kick is flicked behind off the head of Webster, and Fulham have a corner!
46' Tete and Caicedo collide when competing for a loose ball, with the Fulham right-back being sent flying, but the Brighton midfielder comes off worse, and is still down.
46' And we're back underway in the second half, via the boot of Fulham's Pereira!
The sides are back out for the second half, and can either side improve their final third output to find a goal in the next 45 minutes?
Fulham's best attacking spells have all come through Pereira, who ended the half with a single shot and completed one key pass. He completed 12 in total in Brighton's half, as well as swinging in three crosses and winning a free-kick. He's lost the ball 15 times though, winning it thrice, which shows just how disjointed this game has been at times.
A rather forgettable first half comes to an end, with neither side really able to assert themselves in the game so far. Fulham have had opportunities in fits and starts, but have only tested Sanchez once, with Palhinha's header from a corner. Brighton, meanwhile, have been very sluggish, creating very little in the way of chances and looking porous in midfield. It's still 0-0 though, so both sides know they can improve in the second half, and they'll really need to if either is to find a winner.
43' Fulham have picked up four points in their first two home Premier League matches this season, a tally that took them six home games to reach in their last top-flight campaign in 2020-21. The Cottagers are looking for consecutive home Premier League wins for the first time since April 2019.
41' Mwepu drops into midfield to pick up a forward pass, and looks for Gross on the run into the box, but the Zambian overhits his pass and the ball goes out for a goal kick.
39' This time it's Estupinan who crosses from the left, but Leno can gather under little pressure from the Seagulls forwards.
38' WIDE!!! Trossard swings a cross into the box, and March arrives late at the front post, but he can only send his bullet header wide of the post!
37' A good cross-field pass from Dunk picks out Veltman on the right, but Robinson puts it out for a throw before the Dutchman can cross.
35' Following away wins against Manchester United and West Ham this season, Brighton are aiming to win their opening three away league games in a campaign for only the fourth time, also doing so in 1953-54 and 1957-58 in the Third Division South, and 2011-12 in the Championship.
33' OVER!!! Pereira tries his luck from 30 yards, smashing the free-kick over the wall, but it doesn't even trouble Sanchez as it sails over the bar!
32' Mitrovic picks the ball up following that Brighton chance and dribbles down the left again. He gets all the way to the edge of the Seagulls' box, beating two challenges before being fouled cynically by Mac Allister for a free-kick.
31' After Pereira is dispossessed in midfield, Brighton surge down the left on the break through Gross. He cuts the ball back across the box, but no-one is there to meet it and the chance dissipates!
29' SAVED!!! Good play from Brighton's front two as a good flick from Gross finds Mwepu. He heels the ball back to Gross, whose first-time effort is held by Leno!
27' Kebano does well down the left again, cutting inside and finding Pereira. The Brazilian's return ball is cut out by Mac Allister, though, and De Cordova-Reid can't keep the chance alive.
25' Brighton have barely had a sniff in Fulham's box in the first 25 minutes, with their lack of a focal point in Welbeck's absence meaning they're currently unable to keep possession high up the pitch. That could all change of course, but at the moment it's the home side who look by far the most likely to break the deadlock.
23' Kebano looks to beat Veltman around the outside, but is brought to ground and Brighton get the ball back, with no foul given!
22' Fulham are unbeaten in all four of their Premier League games against Brighton, with both meetings ending goalless the last time the sides met in 2020-21.
20' Pereira swings a deep free-kick into the box, but it's far too close to Sanchez and the Brighton goalkeeper plucks the ball out of the sky.
18' SAVED!!! Mitrovic is put into space down the left and races towards the box. He cuts inside Veltman and Webster before shooting, but it's a tame final effort that Sanchez can easily hold!
16' Brighton have kept a clean sheet in each of their last seven Premier League games against promoted sides, since losing 1-0 to West Brom in February 2021. That defeat to the Baggies is their only loss in their last 15 games against promoted opposition.
14' The Cottagers have started brightly, engineering some good chances down the wings. However, Brighton's organised defence has stood firm so far, and Fulham will be well aware of how dangerous Graham Potter's men are in transition.
12' Brighton failed to win a single midweek Premier League game last season, drawing three and losing four. Their previous three such matches before this saw them share the spoils with Chelsea and pick up victories over Liverpool and Manchester City.
10' Forward come Fulham as Reed powers through midfield. He finds Kebano, who in turn feeds Pereira, but his cross to the back post is a disappointing one and goes behind for a goal-kick.
8' SAVED!!! Palhinha flicks on a header from Pereira's wicked cross, and it forces Sanchez into a fantastic reflex save!
8' Fulham have won just one of their last 16 midweek Premier League games, losing half of these, although that sole victory came over Brighton on a Tuesday in January 2019.
7' CHANCE!!! De Cordova-Reid appears to have lost out to Dunk in a tackle, but retains possession and drives down the byline. He smashes a low ball across the face of goal, but it's just in front of Mitrovic and Veltman puts it behind!
6' Fulham look to break out of their own half through Kebano, but he's brought down by Veltman and play is stopped for another free-kick.
4' Challenges fly in from all angles as a heavy effort on Pereira goes unnoticed by the referee. Brighton counter down the left, but Estupinan slips over and Tete recovers possession.
3' Gross finds space on the right and cuts inside Robinson, but Palhinha gets across to win the ball cleanly for Fulham and deny him shooting space.
1' Tete receives a cross-field pass on the right-hand side, but is barrelled over by Estupinan and Fulham gain an early free-kick in a good position.
1' Brighton get the game underway, and we're off and running at Craven Cottage!
The players are out on the pitch, and kick-off is just moments away!
Brighton make one change from their 1-0 win over Leeds, with Danny Welbeck benched and Enock Mwepu pushing forward into the attack alongside Pascal Gross, who scored the winner at the Amex Stadium. The Seagulls’ new signing Julio Enciso is on the bench, and will be hoping to sink his teeth into the action if introduced during the game.
Having pushed Arsenal all the way at the Emirates, Marco Silva names an unchanged XI, with talisman and top scorer Aleksandar Mitrovic hoping to add to his very impressive four goals in four games.
BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION SUBS: Jason Steele, Tariq Lamptey, Levi Colwill, Steven Alzate, Danny Welbeck, Julio Enciso, Deniz Undav, Kaoru Mitoma, Jan-Paul van Hecke.
BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION (4-4-2): Robert Sanchez; Joel Veltman, Adam Webster, Lewis Dunk, Pervis Estupinan; Solly March, Alexis Mac Allister, Moises Caicedo, Leandro Trossard; Pascal Gross, Enock Mwepu.
FULHAM SUBS: Marek Rodak, Tom Cairney, Nathaniel Chalobah, Kevin Mbabu, Issa Diop, Tyrese Francois, Terry Ablade, Luke Harris, Jay Stansfield.

Brighton, however, are unbeaten, having made their best ever start to a top-flight season, and following a 1-0 win over Leeds they sit fourth with 10 points from four games. In fact, if the Seagulls win this match, they’ll rise to the top of the Premier League table for the first time in their history.
Promoted Fulham have made an excellent start to their season, with the Cottagers having picked up five points already. Marco Silva’s 11th-placed side were unbeaten until losing 2-1 to Arsenal last time out.
