Enyimba recorded a priceless 1-0 triumph over CARA Brazzaville in their Caf Confederation Cup fixture at the Aba Stadium.
Substitute Wasiu Alalade was the hero for the People’s Elephant, with his goal in the closing stages of the game – helping the team qualify for the quarter-final as group winners.
For the Congolese, it was a case of what could have been, as a series of missed chances and some resolute defending by the hosts shut them out in Nigeria as they finished as runners-up.
Enyimba were monopolising possession but still appeared vulnerable offensively whenever the ball was in the air.
With a quarter of an hour gone, Usman Abdallah’s men went close after Mfon Udoh’s effort was saved by the visitor’s goalkeeper.
CARA Brazzaville were doing a good job of containing Enyimba deep in their own half, but were undone when Alalade scored from a rebound off Udoh’s free-kick in the closing seconds of the game.
