8th Finals
UEFA Europa League

Chelsea can't dwell on this one for long, as they host Liverpool this weekend. Nor should they - they played OK and there's still plenty of time for them to get out of the group. Valencia are off to a good start. Whatever happens, Group H is sure to be interesting. That's all for now. Goodbye!
Valencia's win puts them second in a nascent Group H on goal difference behind Ajax, who beat Lille 3-0 in Amsterdam. Chelsea sit in third place and will have to go away and lick their wounds. They had the better of this game but couldn't create good enough chances to score.
Valencia get their first win over Chelsea in seven attempts and win their first away trip to an English club in Europe since they beat Stoke City in February 2012! Valencia rode their luck at times - especially when Ross Barkley missed his penalty kick - but held firm against a Chelsea side who seemed to have used up all their firepower in their last match. Group H won't be a cakewalk.
90' + 4' Chelsea take the corner. Alonso wins the flick-on and the ball finds its way to Christensen, who can only nod wide from close range! Looks like this isn't Chelsea's day.
90' + 3' Cillessen saves! Alonso goes for glory, curling a left-footed effort from a tight angle towards the top right corner of the goal but Valencia's keeper pushes it over for a corner!
90' + 2' Gomez is caught offside from Gabriel's through ball. Chelsea have to score soon to salvage a point from this game. Pedro skips past Gaya and wins a free-kick right on the edge of Valencia's box.
M. Diakhaby
D. Cheryshev
90' + 2' Valencia make their final change. Cheryshev off. Diakhaby on.
90' + 1' Four minutes of added time here, but Chelsea's frustration is getting the better of them. Azpilicueta gives away a foul on Gomez in Valencia's half and the crowd groans.
Lee Kang-In
90' Rodrigo, the goalscorer, goes off to applause from the Valencia fans. The young South Korean midfielder Lee replaces him.
O. Giroud
Yellow Card
90' Giroud gets booked for an over-aggressive challenge on Gabriel. Lampard looks slightly glum down on the touchline.
R. Barkley
Penalty Miss
87' BARKLEY MISSES THE PENALTY! Barkley takes a stuttering run-up that deceives Cillessen but his penalty is always rising and just clips the crossbar! Valencia get a reprieve for now.
85' PENALTY FOR CHELSEA! The referee Cuneyt Cakir reviews the incident for himself and points to the spot! It was accidental, but it does look like Wass' arm made his body abnormally large to block the shot. Barkley will take it...
83' Willian's corner is cleared as far as Pedro, who rattles another shot off a Valencia defender and out for another corner. This time Chelsea claim hand-ball as Tomori's header is blocked by Wass! It's going to VAR...
82' Chelsea are piling forward now, half in determination and half in desperation. Barkley loops a ball over the top for Giroud but Garay is there to chest it away. Barkley's shot from range is blocked shortly after. The Chelsea fans cheer the corner.
R. Barkley
M. Kovačić
80' Chelsea make another change. Kovacic off. Barkley on.
79' That Rodrigo goal, by the way, is only his third Champions League goal in his 25th appearance in the competition, his first in 10 for Valencia. Not a bad game in which to get it.
78' Giroud gets a sniff of goal in the box and rifles a left-footed shot into the arms of Cillessen. Barkley is getting ready to come on for Chelsea.
76' Chelsea look glum about that. Abraham fouls Parejo in Valencia's half and gives away an unnecessary free-kick. Abraham's faded in the second half.
Dani Parejo
74' Parejo's delivery was nice and deceptive as no Chelsea defender expected the near post run. It's just as well Chelsea made that attacking change, as now they'll need to chase the game.
74' GOAL! VALENCIA TAKE THE LEAD! Kovacic fouls Gaya in a central position. From Parejo's free-kick, Rodigo makes a clever run unmarked towards the near post and hits the ball into the ground. It bounces over Kepa and into the roof of the net! 1-0 Valencia.
O. Giroud
K. Zouma
73' Chelsea decide to chase the game and switch to four at the back. Zouma off. Giroud on.
71' Rodrigo is fouled by Alonso on the right wing right on the touchline. Valencia's free-kick bounces harmlessly out for a goal-kick.
M. Gómez
K. Gameiro
70' After a few minutes of waiting Valencia make their first substitution. Gameiro off. Gomez on.
70' Pedro gets a sliver of space in Valencia's box and drags a left-footed shot wide. Chelsea's attack has been a little blunt so far this match.
69' Cillessen's ball forward causes problems for Chelsea's defence but Zouma muscles out Gameiro. Chelsea rush upfield and Willian just can't catch a through ball. The home side are upping the tempo now.
68' Some quick Chelsea interplay gives Azpilicueta the chance to lash a shot against the side netting after Gabriel blocks. Valencia head out and Cillessen claims the ball back in.
67' It's another Chelsea free-kick as Kovacic is brought down. The longer this game goes on, the more it feels like it might fizzle out into a draw.
65' Valencia get a corner down the right as Garay steps into midfield and sets free Coquelin, whose run is stopped by Alonso. Coquelin takes it short and Wass blasts over.
64' Chelsea's corner comes to nothing as Alonso heads high and wide. Chelsea come again and Willian almost gets the chance to turn on goal, but Gaya is there to intercept.
62' Alonson steps up and forces a save from Cillessen! The Spaniard's effort is low and curved around the wall, but Valencia's keeper drops low at his near post to keep it out.
61' Abraham wins the flick-on from Kepa's goal-kick and Willian jinks past Gaya, tempting him into the foul. Chelsea have a central free-kick about 25 yards from goal.
60' Valencia pop the ball around as Chelsea disjointedly press. Rodrigo attempts to slide Cheryshev through on goal but the pass is too powerful for the Russian to reach. Chelsea goal-kick.
58' Willian tries to take on Valencia's defence by himself and fails, giving away a free-kick as he loses the ball. It's hard to tell who will score first at the moment, but you sense one goal may be enough to win this.
57' Parejo cleverly cuts the corner back to Gameiro just inside the penalty area, but he blazes over. That set-piece routine almost paid off for Valencia.
56' Valencia have all their big men forward. Alonso nods the ball out of trouble, for now, as Valencia get a corner.
54' Valencia are getting a hold in this game. Rodrigo loses possession with a sloppy ball but Tomori's pass out is just as bad. Wass beats Alonso and Pedro arrives to chop him down. Valencia free-kick.
53' Alonso raises a boot to hook away an intended pass for Kondogbia, handing Valencia a throw down the right. Cheryshev loses out in the middle and Kepa boots it forward.
52' Valencia pin Chelsea into their own third temporarily, forcing Zouma to send an aimless ball forward and hand over possession. Now what can they do with it?
50' Wass can't head a long ball away and Pedro latches onto it. He can't create a chance but Chelsea still have the ball until Willian loses it to Gaya on the opposite side. Still, Chelsea are keeping the pressure on the visitors.
49' Cheryshev, operating centrally, finds a pocket of space between Chelsea's defence and midfield and lets fly from range. His effort bounces wide.
47' Azpilicueta and Willian combine down the right to win Chelsea a corner, which Willian takes. Abraham gets on the end of it at the far post but his header towards goal is blocked, as is Willian's follow-up. Valencia get it away.
46' Abraham gets into some immediate difficulty as he chases down a ball towards Cillessen and lands jarringly. Thankfully it looks like something he can run off.
45' No changes at half-time. Valencia get the second half underway!
Chelsea haven't lost a game in European competition since 2017-18, when they went out in the round of 16 of this competition to Barcelona. They won 12 and drew three of their European games last season as they went on to win the Europa League. Will their unbeaten run continue here?
Chelsea have had the better of the game so far, with their 3-4-3 giving them plenty of space out on the wings. They've made a few good chances, but no clear-cut ones, and Valencia have shown enough to look dangerous on the counter. We should be in for an intriguing second half.
45' + 2' Chelsea get their best chance at the end of the half! Azpilicueta slides through Willian, who takes the ball on the half-volley and forces a save from Cillessen! Valencia clear. That's that for now.
45' Chelsea are really working the flanks today. Azpilicueta drills a low cross towards Abraham at the near post, but Valencia get the free-kick. There will be two added minutes.
44' Valencia head the ball away but not completely. Kondogbia blocks Pedro's shot from distance and it bounces out for a throw.
43' Azpilicueta delivers another ball from the flanks. Gabriel heads away. The ball finds its way back to Azpilicueta, who wins a corner for Chelsea off Gaya.
41' Willian is Chelsea's brightest player so far. Alonso checks inside and curls in a fantastic right-footed ball for Willian arriving on the run, who can't keep his effort down.
40' Willian skips past Gaya and Parejo's attempted slide tackle to get in the box, only to let himself down with his next touch which bobbles out for a goal-kick.
39' Wass looks for Gameiro with an over-the-top ball but Christensen doesn't give him a sniff. Chelsea get upfield but Kovacic's pass is loose and straight to Kondogbia.
37' Alonso, in acres of space, crosses in fantastically from the left but Gabriel just beats Abraham to the header. That was a vital clearance by the Brazilian.
36' Tomori spots space in front of him and decides to dribble all the way towards the goalline, curling a ball to the far post that Azpilicueta can't keep in play. Chelsea are turning the screw at the moment.
35' Chelsea try to get through the middle but Pedro can't find a way through. Willian tries himself and flashes a low shot wide of Cillessen's right-hand post.
Yellow Card
33' The home fans groan as Jorginho slides in on Kondogbia in Valencia's defensive third, receiving a yellow card for his efforts.
32' Valencia are finding joy down the flanks when Chelsea's wing-backs over-commit forward. Something for Chelsea to think about.
30' Valencia break quickly, finding Cheryshev down the left. The Russian cuts back for Rodrigo, whose powerful shot from outside the box is blocked by his own teammate Gameiro! Chelsea clear.
29' Alonso concedes a clumsy foul on Kondogbia after Pedro is intercepted by the touchline. Valencia free-kick.
27' Willian loses the ball in the final third and Rodrigo chips a fantastic ball over the top for Gameiro to chase. Tomori races across and puts the ball out for a throw. Good stuff, this.
26' Chance for Chelsea! Abraham nods wide after Azpilicueta puts in another fantastic cross. Chelsea's 3-4-3 is working well for them at the moment.
25' Rodrigo tests and teases Zouma down the right. He crosses inside to Coquelin, whose attempted ball rolls harmlessly out of play.
23' Chelsea win a corner off Wass that's nothing to write home about. That Gameiro touch, by the way, washis first of the game. Valencia's strikers have been almost invisible.
22' Parejo finds Gaya with a through ball and Gaya heads towards the top centre of Kepa's goal. Nothing the Chelsea keeper can't handle.
20' Valencia work the ball down the left and Gameiro breaks into the box. He's held up by Tomori, who manages to nick the ball off him. No fear from Chelsea's young defender.
18' Valencia win a free-kick as Abraham accidentally commits handball. Valencia are growing into this after a slow start.
M. Mount
16' Pedro comes on for Mount. That's a shame for Mount. No doubt the Champions League will see more of him soon.
14' Play is stopped as it looks like Mount can't continue. The young English midfielder will have to go off.
13' Valencia get their first real spell on the ball. After they faff around for a while Parejo loses out to Kovacic, who bursts forward. Unfortunately for Chelsea he doesn't get enough support and the attack breaks down.
12' Azpilicueta lays off to Willian, continuing his run. Willian waits and passes back to Jorginho, whose delivery in is headed away. Willian tries again but passes straight to Wass, who gets rid.
11' Mount looks fine now. Willian's free-kick lands comfortably in the hands of Cillessen.
F. Coquelin
Yellow Card
9' Coquelin is booked for a nasty-looking two-footed challenge on Mount. It happened as Mount was closing Coquelin down, but you sense Coquelin left more in than he needed to. Mount is still down.
7' Azpilicueta curls in a cross and Wass hashes his clearance. Kondogbia is forced to boot it out for a corner under pressure from Abraham. Abraham's header from the corner is blocked. Valencia eventually get it clear.
6' The corner comes to nothing as Alonso nods a tame header towards goal. Cillessen claims comfortably. Still, a promising start for Chelsea.
5' Chelsea eventually pass their way past the halfway line, working the ball down the right. Abraham tries to back-heel the ball past Cillessen from a tight angle but the keeper blocks! Chelsea corner.
3' Chelsea are dictating the play in these early stages with Valencia quite content to sit deep. Jorginho almost finds Abraham with an over-the-top ball but it bounces safely though to Cillessen. Abraham applauds the effort.
2' Zouma angles a deep ball right-to-left towards Alonso, racing forward from wing-back. Wass and Garay have it covered.
1' Chelsea get this Group H tie underway! The first foul of the game goes Valencia's way as Kovacic handballs Cheryshev's attempted flick.
The two sides walk out onto the Stamford Bridge pitch, and the iconic Champions League anthem rings out. It never fails to get the blood pumping, does it?
Chelsea and Valencia have met six times before in the Champions League, four of them in 2007 and twice in 2011 when Cech, Terry, Lampard and Drogba were all still playing for the Blues. Valencia won none of those games, but this is a very different Chelsea now. Will this be Valencia's year?
Chelsea stick with the 3-4-3 that helped them smash Wolves 5-2 last weekend. Lampard makes only one change to that XI - Rudiger is injured so Zouma comes in. Valencia make two changes after their own 5-2 defeat to Barcelona - Cheryshev and Kondogbia are in, and Torres and Guedes are out.

The qualifying rounds are over with, and this year's Champions League is now truly underway. Chelsea and Valencia make up a tantalising Group H with last year's semi-finalists Ajax and Lille, France's second best side who return to this stage for the first time since 2012-13.
