That's all from us today folks, we hope you enjoyed the game!
Celta will be hoping to pick up their first points of the season next weekend, when they face Osasuna. Meanwhile Atletico face Elche next time out.
Atletico get off to a winning start in their bid to defend their LaLiga title, after a 2-1 victory over Celta Vigo. They led 1-0 at the break, thanks to an excellent Correa strike, but were pegged back when Llorente handled the ball in the box and Celta were awarded a penalty following a VAR review. Aspas coolly converted from the spot, but Correa grabbed his second of the game just five minutes later to send Atletico back into the lead. It then all turned sour in stoppage time, as both teams were reduced to 10-men following a coming together between Mallo and Hermoso, which saw both players receive straight red cards.
90' + 10' We have played well over the allotted amount of stoppage time now, after the red cards halted the game. Surely there isn't enough time left for Celta to score another?
J. Giménez
Yellow Card
90' + 8' Gimenez has been booked for dissent.
Š. Vrsaljko
Y. Carrasco
90' + 7' In the aftermath of the sending offs, Carrasco has come off and he has been replaced by Vrsaljko.
Hugo Mallo
Yellow Card
90' + 5' Aspas is also booked for his part in the confrontation.
90' + 5' RED CARD! Both sets of players have completely lost their heads now, with late challenges flying in. Mallo catches Suarez late after the striker released Carrasco for his chance. The Celta skipper then squares up to Hermoso who comes charging in and the pair clash, before being separated by their team-mates. Mallo is shown a straight red card.
Red Card
90' + 5' RED CARD! Hermoso is also sent off for his clash with Mallo, with both players having words with eachother and causing a huge coming together on the pitch. Nearly every player on the pitch came to join in, as it got very heated.
90' + 5' CHANCE! Carrasco breaks through on goal and only has Dituro to beat, but the keeper makes himself as big as possible and makes an excellent save to deny Atletico a third.
90' + 4' Atletico have everyone back behind the ball now, soaking up the Celta pressure in the final few minutes of stoppage time. Can the hosts find a late equaliser?
Y. Carrasco
Yellow Card
90' + 2' Carrasco is booked for timewasting after taking too long with a free-kick and the referee runs out of patience with him.
90' There will be a minimum of seven minutes added time played at the end of the second half.
José Fontán
Yellow Card
90' Fontan is booked for a late diving challenge on Suarez, which the striker makes the most of, but he still caught the Atletico man very late.
Miguel Baeza
Javier Galán
89' Late Celta substitution now, with Galan making his way off the pitch and he has been replaced by Perez.
88' Atletico are trying to slow the pace of the game down now when they can, but the hosts aren't making it easy for them. They are pressing high to try and win the ball back quickly.
A. Solari
Yellow Card
86' Solari is the latest player to be booked after he trips Lemar from behind.
84' Celta lost their last LaLiga game (2-3 vs Real Betis) after winning each of the previous five in a row. The last time they lost back-to-back games in the competition was in January 2021 (three).
Renan Lodi
Marcos Llorente
82' Atletico make another change now, with Llorente replaced by Lodi.
80' CHANCE! Aspas with a great opportunity to make it 2-2! The striker finds a gap in the Atletico defence and sneaks in behind, with only Oblak to beat. However, his touch is a bit too heavy and it sends it slightly wide of the goal, so his effort flies into the side netting.
79' Another short cooling break for the two teams, after a frantic second half of football so far. Atletico may now try and see the game out with not long left to play.
77' BLOCKED! Celta win a free-kick in a very good position, around 25 yards out and in good shooting range. However, Aspas doesn't get enough on his effort and the Atletico wall do their job well and make the block.
Denis Suárez
Yellow Card
77' Denis Suarez is booked for a foul on Luis Suarez.
A. Solari
R. Tapia
75' The other change sees Tapia replaced by Solari.
Fran Beltrán
Brais Méndez
74' The hosts make a double substitution now, with Mendez the first to come off, he has been replaced by Beltran.
73' There is still plenty of time left on the clock for Celta to find an equaliser here, but they haven't really looked like scoring since conceding the second goal, with Atletico on top.
71' Suarez has scored in each of his last three league games against Celta (five goals in total), including in his two meetings against them for Atletico (three goals).
69' PENALTY SHOUT! Atletico with a penalty appeal of their own now! Rodrigo De Paul sees his shot blocked by Mallo and it appears to strike the arm of the Celta defender, but his back was turned and there wasn't much he could do about that. Nothing given.
68' Celta will be gutted about conceding a goal so soon after scoring an equaliser, they now need to get the ball down and start pressing forward once more in search of another.
K. Trippier
66' The final change sees Koke replaced by Trippier.
R. De Paul
T. Lemar
65' Lemar also heads off the pitch, he has been replaced by Rodrigo De Paul.
L. Suárez
Á. Correa
65' Atletico make a triple change following the goal, with Correa the first to come off and he has been replaced by Suarez.
64' Saul did really well to spot the run of Correa to his right, as the striker had plenty of space in front of him to run into and then pick his spot.
Á. Correa
64' GOAL! Atletico lead 2-1! Correa with his second of the game, to fire them back ahead, just five minutes after conceding the equaliser. They counter quickly and catch Celta out at the back, with Koke playing a lovely ball across the pitch to Correa in the box, who drills his shot into the far corner of the net, with Dituro having no chance of stopping it. Great move and finish.
63' We now have a very interesting game on our hands, with Celta appearing to be on top, as a few Atletico players seem to have lost their cool following the penalty.
F. Cervi
62' Celta have made their first substitution of the game, with Nolito the man heading off the pitch and he has been replaced by Cervi.
G. Kondogbia
Yellow Card
61' Kondogbia is shown a yellow card after he slides into the back of Aspas on the halfway line and catches the striker late.
Iago Aspas
Penalty Goal
59' GOAL! Aspas makes it 1-1 from the penalty spot! The striker steps up to take the spot kick and coolly sends Oblak the wrong way, firing the ball into the bottom left corner of the net.
Marcos Llorente
Yellow Card
57' Llorente is booked for the handball and possibly dissent after arguing the decision with the referee for a while after the official pointed to the spot.
57' CELTA PENALTY! The original decision has been overturned and after looking at the footage, the referee has awarded a penalty. Great chance for Celta to make it 1-1.
57' VAR REVIEW! The officals have told the referee to take a look at the penalty incident and he is on his way to review the footage on the pitch side monitor. It does look like Llorente had his arm up in an high position and the ball clearly hit him.
55' PENALTY SHOUT! Celta whip a free-kick deep into the penalty area from the right wing, which Oblak punches, but he doesn't clear the danger and Aspas and Llorente go up for the rebound. The ball appears to strike the outstretched arm of the Atletico man and push it away, so Celta immediately appeal for a penalty. Nothing is given on the pitch by the referee.
54' Still no sign of any changes for either team, although both sides have a few players getting ready on the sidelines, with Suarez one of those for the visitors.
52' Celta have started the second half positively, keeping the ball well in midfield, but Atletico look pretty comfortable at the back at the moment.
50' Atletico are unbeaten their last 11 opening LaLiga games (W5 D6) since a defeat against Málaga at La Rosaleda in 2009 (0-3).
48' Saul is caught late by Mallo down the left, after the Atletico man flicks the ball past the Celta skipper. However, he was already in an offside position, so no free-kick is awarded for the foul. Saul should be fine to continue.
46' The second half is under way!
There is still plenty of time for Celta to get back into this game and they have shown that they can open Atletico up at the back, but they just need to be more ruthless in the final third.
Atletico lead 1-0 at the break, thanks to a wonderful strike from Correa after 23 minutes. The visitors have had a few efforts blocked after some good Celta defending, with Dituro not yet being forced into making a save. However, Aspas was forced to clear a Hermoso effort off the line, after a diving header. Meanwhile, Aspas has gone the closest for Celta, after he broke in behind the Atletico defence, but his shot didn't have enough power behind it and Oblak could make a comfortable save.
45' + 2' Blocked again! Lemar cuts in from the left wing and tries to work the space for a shot at goal, but Mallo makes himself big and gets in the way of the effort.
45' There will be a minimum of three minutes added time played at the end of the first half.
43' The game is very lively in these final few minutes of the first half, with Celta trying to find an equaliser before the break, but this is leaving them vulnerable at the back, with Atletico trying to counter-attack.
41' Blocked! Two good shooting opportunities in the space of a few seconds for Atletico, but both Correa and Carrasco are denied by some excellent defending by Celta.
40' There isn’t long left to play before the end of the first half, can Celta find an equaliser before the half-time whistle?
38' OFF THE LINE! Hermoso almost makes it 2-0! The defender produces a diving header from a corner and it flies towards the bottom right corner of the net, but luckily for Celta, Aspas is on the line to stop it from going in. Savic then tries to get to the rebound, but Dituro reacts just in time to gather.
36' CHANCE! Aspas with an excellent opportunity to level the scoreline! The striker races in behind the Atletico defence, but can't quite shake off Savic and he has to fire a shot at goal from a tight angle, but he should test Oblak more. The effort lacks enough pace to beat the Atletico keeper, who makes a comfortable save.
35' Atletico haven't offered anything going forward since opening the scoring, they are happy to sit deep with everyone back behind the ball and allow Celta the possession.
33' We're having a cooling break now, giving both sets of players chance to take on some drinks and also receive instructions from the sidelines.
31' Free-kick to Celta in a decent position down the left wing after Koke barges into the back of Galan and gives away the set piece. Can Celta create anything from this?
29' We’re almost at the half an hour mark now and it remains Atletico who lead 1-0 over Celta, thanks to Correa's strike on 23 minutes.
27' Celta look dangerous on the counter, they can stretch the visitors defence at the back when they move at pace. They just need to be more clinical in the final third.
25' Atletico have won just one of their three away games at Celta in LaLiga (D1 L1), most recently in October 2020 after winning each of the previous three.
T. Lemar
23' Lemar tried to work space for the shot at goal himself, but just ran out of room after dribbling past a few Celta defenders. The winger then played it to Correa to his right and the striker did the rest with an excellent finish.
Á. Correa
23' GOAL! Atletico take the lead, it’s 1-0! Correa with their first goal of the LaLiga season and it’s a lovely strike to fire them ahead. Lemar does brilliantly to skip past a couple of Celta defenders and then lay it off to his team-mate on the edge of the penalty area, who smashes it into the top right corner of the net. Great finish.
21' We're over 20 minutes in now and neither side have had a shot on target, with both keepers just watching on at the moment.
19' Despite not being at full capacity, there is a cracking atmosphere inside the stadium, with the home supporters eager to see their side get off to a winning start against the reigning champions.
17' There are a few late challenges flying in at the moment, which is breaking up the game and not really allowing it to flow, hence the lack of goalmouth action in the opening stages.
15' Stoppage in play here as Lemar is down on the pitch following a late challenge on him by Mendez. The winger seems to be in some pain, but the referee is yet to allow the medical team to come on, so he must think that he is fine to continue.
13' Celta have lost only two of their last nine meetings with Atletico de Madrid in LaLiga (W1 D3) after six defeats in a row between 2016 and 2018.
12' Celta with their first shot at goal now, but the effort from Mendez is well blocked and Atletico clear the danger.
T. Lemar
Yellow Card
11' Lemar is shown an early yellow card for his late stamp on Mendez, catching the Celta man high on his leg and the referee didn't have much choice but to book him.
9' Blocked! Correa and Llorente link up well down the right wing, with the latter playing it inside to Correa, who takes on a Celta defender and then fires a low effort at goal. However, it is well blocked by Nolito and goes behind for a corner.
7' This is a bit better from Atletico, they are seeing more of the ball in the middle of the pitch, making the hosts do all the chasing.
5' You can see Atletico getting back into their five-man defence when they don’t have the ball, with Carrasco and Saul making sure they are tucked in to prevent any overlaps down the wings.
3' Both teams are just battling for possession in the opening few minutes of the game. Celta are just edging it at the moment, with Atletico happy to sit back and soak up any pressure.
1' We're under way!
The teams are out on the pitch and kick-off is just a few minutes away, stay tuned for all the match action!
