ISL 2017-18: Bengaluru 2-0 Goa: Eagles better Gaurs to book semi-final berth
The Sunil Chhetri-led side got the better of FC Goa on Friday evening as Edu Garcia and Dimas Delgado found the net.

In match 68 of the Indian Super League, FC Goa were defeated by Bengaluru FC at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in a 2-0 result. Spaniards Edu Garcia (35’) and Dimas Delgado (82’) registered their names on the scoresheet for the home side.

The Eagles and The Gaurs both lined up in a 4-2-3-1 shape; however, each side had one prominent change in the squad as custodian Laxmikant Kattimani was demoted to the bench for the visitors while stalwart Miku was absent from Bengaluru’s matchday squad.

On a rainy Friday evening, the crowd witnessed an action-packed start to the match as the home side’s goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu kept out Ferran Corominas’ header with his legs in the sixth minute. Just four minutes later, Goa striker Manvir Singh released a powerful shot after cutting in from the right to test Gurpreet who dived to his left to avert the danger.

20 minutes into the game, Albert Roca’s men who were dominating the proceedings, came close to netting the first goal in the 24th minute. From the left wing, Nishu Kumar made his way into the box before feeding Semboi Haokip with the ball in the centre; the latter flicked it towards the near post but custodian Naveen Kumar pulled off a good save.

The first blood was however drawn in the 35th minute when Edu Garcia’s header went beyond the reach of Naveen Kumar and Bruno Pinheiro. As Toni Dovale stood up for the corner-kick, his delivery was met by Edu Garcia inside the box who sent a curving header into the top corner.

In the 57th minute, following Nishu Kumar’s throw-in, skipper Sunil Chhetri attempted a long-ranger from the edge of the box; however, it was kept away by a vital touch from Naveen Kumar.

The hosts’ lead was doubled in the 82nd minute as Dimas Delgado registered his first goal for the JSW-owned outfit. Edu Garcia carried the ball into the centre of the park before a deflection allowed Toni Dovale to head the ball into the path of Dimas who shot straight into the net.

Bengaluru clinched full points from the match and extended their lead at the top of the table by a sweet margin of eight points.
