Given the goalscoring potential of Aston Villa’s clash with Hull City, it won’t have been out of place to expect a wildly exciting encounter at Villa Park. Predictably, the encounter delivered its full weight in goals as it ended 2-2. Having fallen two goals behind, it was Abraham who completed the Villans’ fightback when he netted the equalizer in the 67th minute. The strike came from his only attempt on target all game, and took his tally for the season to 17.

Having proved himself worthy of a place in the side following his pair of recent impressive outings, Marco Silva retained the young forward for Everton’s trip to Southampton. However, it backfired spectacularly with Lookman unable to get a foothold as the Toffees went down 2-1 at St Mary’s Stadium. Particularly irritating was his constant loss of possession, which would have infuriated travelling supporters all game. In all fairness, every attacking player for the away side struggled on the day and the young forward shouldn’t be too hard on himself after a tough day on the south coast.&nbsp;

Too Bad: Ademola Lookman

Granted, Reading fell to a 2-1 defeat at playoff chasing Derby County, however, Aluko’s impact off the bench was noteworthy. Having replaced Lewis Baker at the break, the forward gave an outstanding performance to almost singlehandedly help the Royals peg back Frank Lampard’s side. His goal in the 66th minute was his first in almost a year, and he generally tormented the Rams’ backline with his skill and direct running. The accuracy and incision of the attacker’s passing was admirable as well, and it was no surprise he created a couple of opportunities that weren’t put away. Jose Manuel Gomes’ side may be in the relegation zone as it stands, but similar performances by Aluko may just prove to be the catalyst in their Championship survival.

Too Good: Sone Aluko

If Club Brugge had lingering hopes of catching Genk at the top of the table, those hopes faded significantly after their 1-0 home defeat by Sporting Charleroi. Dennis was part of a FCB side that huffed and puffed for the wholegame, but found no way past Nicolas Penneteau in the away side’s goal. By firing blanks in their first league outing since the winter break, the wideman failed to add to his five league goals this season.

Galatasaray thrashed beleaguered Ankaragucu 6-0 in their first competitive league game since the turn of the year. It was especially momentous for Onyekuru who scored his first career treble as a pro. Having largely struggled before the league’s hiatus, he did end 2018 on a high with a brace against Sivasspor. Following that up with a hat-trick in the very next game shows he just might be starting to find his goalscoring boots for Fatih Terim’s side, who’ll need his output if they’re to catch runaway leaders Istanbul Basaksehir (they trail by six points). Onyekuru has now hit the back of the net nine times in the league and the forward is by no means done yet!
