A section of fans in South Africa feel Benni McCarty’s work at Manchester United is proof that he was already good enough to take over at Orlando Pirates and should return to coach the Buccaneers in future.
McCarthy has been working as part of Erik ten Hag’s backroom staff at Manchester United, specialising in coaching the club’s forwards’ attacking play and positioning and he has been credited for Marcus Rashford’s improved form this season.
While some fans want him to stay in Europe, a big number would like Bafana Bafana’s all-time leading scorer to return home in future and manage his former club.
Big Up Benni. Orlando Pirates should have taken you. I'm very sad that Mr [Irvin] Khoza didn't see a pro coach in you. I would have love to see you in charge of our always losing team but what can we say as fans of the club. -Zephaniah Mafanya
Now Benni knows exactly after Manchester United, he comes directly to Orlando Pirates. Without even a CV wanted from him. Good luck future Pirates coach. -Thabo Thiza
I am sure he will never downgrade himself like that. The guy is flying high. -Tanya Philomina
Banni maybe can be the coach of Bafana Bafana in future. -Ditsala Tsame
Big Up Benni! Your presence in that club is awesome and commendable, keep it up. Here in SA, club administrators don't see your potential. -Zephaniah Mafanya
How come Safa did not see this potential? Is it because it [Safa] is led by individuals who never played? -@j_lehasa
Benni has been a revelation in turning the United forwards into a force to be reckoned with. A pity we don’t value his expertise in SA. - @Smeegs_01
Is it possible that Safa ropes him in while he continues his job with United? We need him as a country. - @Ntokozo_mntamb
And we have @BafanaBafana shooting blanks here at home. Well done @bennimccarthy17 for flying the flag. - @LindaDX1
Should be Manchester United assistant coach. There's no reason he should come back here.
-Thabo Taleni
We knew Rashford was already good. I will applaud more if he [Benni McCarthy] rejuvenates [Anthony] Martial, [Anthony] Elanga, [Jadon] Sancho and uprising stars like [Facundo] Pellistri and [Alejandro] Garnacho. -Nuhu Muhammad
Benni is right in Europe that's where he belongs. Here in South Africa, he will see flames. From Safa, club management, owners and sometimes players. Everything in South Africa os politicised. We [are] happy he is doing well for himself abroad once again. -@tumelo_xavier
