Nigeria have Augustine Eguavoen as interim coach after parting ways with Finidi George.Eguavoen led the Super Eagles to a 3-0 victory over Benin before drawing 0-0 with Rwanda away in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.They now face Libya in back-to-back 2025 Afcon qualifier in October and Eguavoen will continue in his temporary role.

WHAT HAPPENED?

"The Executive Committee of Nigeria Football Federation on Thursday approved the recommendation of its Technical and Development Sub-Committee for the Federation’s Technical Director, Coach Augustine Eguavoen to continue in his role as Head Coach of the Super Eagles, and lead the team in its 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Libya next month," <a href="https://thenff.com/eguavoen-to-continue-in-eagles-role-as-madugu-takes-over-super-falcons/" target="_blank">the NFF said in a statement.</a>

WHAT THE NFF SAID

Three coaches have taken charge of the Super Eagles this year starting with Jose Peseiro who led them to a silver medal at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations finals.Finidi George then came in but lasted just two competitive games including the 1-1 draw with Bafana Bafana in the 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers. Now Eguavoen is in charge temporarily amid unattached <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-za/lists/pitso-mosimane-to-be-appointed-nigeria-coach-ex-mamelodi-sundowns-coach-confirms-contact-from-west-africa-amid-vacant-super-eagles-job/blt2a2f31c21d76eeb0" target="_blank">Pitso Mosimane being linked with the permanent Super Eagles job.</a>

THE BIGGER PICTURE

If Nigeria are impressive and win big in the two games against Libya could see Eguavoen being handed a permanent role from being the federation's technical director.He has previously been the Super Eagles coach on two stints.
