Yobe Desert Stars have given a six-match ultimatum to the technical crew headed by Muhammed Banaganaru ahead of their resumption of Nigerian topflight actions on July 18.

Before embarking on the World Cup break, the Desert Warriors bowed 1-0 to Akwa United at the Damaturu Stadium on June 10, marking the third defeat in a row for the topflight returners.

Having dropped to 19th position, manager director of the club, Abdulrahaman Ago in a statement said that the management’s move was in the bid to keep them in the elite division.

"We decided to give the technical crew a six-match ultimatum for the team to remain in the Nigeria Professional Football League this season,” Ago told media.

“We cannot play one season in the Nigeria Professional Football League and go back to the Nigeria National League.

“The is not where we belong our status and playing in the NPFL has given us a lot of pride in the Northeast region. We need to maintain that status.

"As far as my concern, we have some experience and best legs in the league, coupled with the fact that our young talented squad who are ready to play their heart out on the field."

Relegation-threatened Yobe Deserts Stars will be hoping to resume their top-flight survival bid when they host fellow-strugglers Heartland on July 18.
