Xola Mlambo voted Orlando Pirates Player of the Month for August

Mlambo, who grabbed six assists last month, beat his Bucs team-mate Vincent Pule to the prize

Orlando Pirates midfielder Xola Mlambo was ecstatic after being crowned the club's Player of the Month for August.

The midfield maestro received the majority of votes cast by fans in a competition conducted on Pirates on their social media platforms over the weekend.

Mlambo, who has established himself as a key player for Bucs, appeared in all six matches played so far in the 2018/19 campaign.

“It’s a great honour to be nominated for such an award, especially in a time where we haven’t been doing as well as we had planned for as a team," Mlambo told the club's official website.

"When we get onto the field we aren’t thinking of awards, but rather to help the team win games so to be here right now is a pleasant surprise," he continued.

The 27-year-old player is keen to maintain his good form for the Buccaneers, who beat Black Leopards 2-1 in their last PSL game last week.

“We are working hard as a team and always want to do well for each other and the supporters. We finished the season strong last season and we need to build on that," Mlambo added.

"We have an international break now where we can focus fully on preparing and look forward to getting back into the swing of things when we resume the league," he explained.

The Official Mobile and Electronics Partner of Pirates, LG South Africa gave Mlambo a brand new LG G7 Smartphone and customized phone cover as a reward for his exploits for the club.

“This award has added to my motivation and will be a constant reminder that I need to keep working hard. One thing for sure, if I’m working hard enough to get recognized. It also means I’m pushing for my team to do well at the same time," he concluded.
