Wakaso under evaluation after picking up injury in La Liga

The 28-year-old has suffered a grade I to II shoulder injury, his Spanish club have revealed

Mubarak Wakaso's fitness is to be closely monitored for the coming days after he picked up an injury during Deportivo Alaves' Spanish La Liga clash with Villarreal on Sunday.

The Ghanaian saw 82 minutes of action as El Glorioso came from behind to register a 2-1 home win at Estadio de Mendizorroza.

Around the hour mark, he appeared headed for a much earlier substitution following an aerial clash with teammate Ximo Navarro, who was immediately stretchered off. The 28-year-old, however, stayed on the pitch for 22 extra minutes before being eventually replaced by Manu Garcia.

"After the tests conducted, it has been ruled out that Ximo Navarro suffered a skull fracture," Alaves have announced on their official website.

"The Albigensian defender has a perforation in the eardrum as a result of the fortuitous clash with his teammate Mubarak Wakaso in the game.

"For his part, the Ghanaian player suffered a grade I-II sprain in the acromioclavicular joint of his left shoulder .

"Both players have undergone the pertinent medical examinations, and they are resting at home.

"The club will give daily updates."

Wakaso has been a key part of Alaves' commendable run in La Liga this season, the side currently occupying the second position above the likes of Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid on the league table.

The Ghanaian has featured in nine of the club's 10 games played thus far, starting eight.

He is unlikely to play any part of Wednesday's fixture against Girona in the Copa del Rey

A long layoff could also see him miss Ghana's 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Ethiopia next month.
