When contacted by Goal on Wednesday, Selangor team manager Abd Rauf Ahmad provided some updates on the Red Giants' preparations for the 2018 season.

While he said that nothing will be finalised until next week, Rauf said that a majority of their 2017 squad will be retained for the following season.

"At the start of the 2017 season we promoted eight President's Cup (U21) players to the senior team, who could still play youth football. And in the coming season we will promote more.

"We will combine the youngsters with the more senior players, as well as the foreign players. That's all we can offer (for the fans), God willing. Around 60% of our current players will be retained," he explained in a telephone conversation.

However he was able to confirm one thing to us; the future of head coach Maniam Pachaiappan.

In his first season as a permanent head coach at a top-tier team this season, Maniam took Selangor to a sixth-place finish and the quarter-final stage of the Malaysia Cup.

"Yes, Maniam will still coach Selangor," he said when asked.
