Brisbane left it late to end a rotten run

A goal at the death has seen Brisbane Roar end a five-game losing streak as they held Newcastle Jets to a 2-2 draw at McDonald Jones Stadium.

Looking for their fifth straight win against Brisbane, the Jets got off to a fast start with Dimitri Petratos opening the scoring after just five minutes.

The Newcastle winger weaved his way past two Roar defenders at the top of the box before lashing a low effort past Jamie Young.

It would be Young that kept the scoreline from getting any worse for Brisbane in the first-half as he made a number of strong saves to deny a lively Jets side.

After the break, the Roar found an unlikely lifeline as Adam Taggart tapped home in the 65th minute following a great turn and cross from Connor O'Toole.

Newcastle would hit straight back however as Roy O'Donovan slotted the ball past Young just two minutes later after a scramble inside the box.

Down but not quite out, Brisbane salvaged a point in the 87th minute as Eric Bautheac headed home at the far post.

The result leaves the Jets three points adrift of the top six, while Brisbane remain stuck in ninth.
