Pitso Mosimane acknowledges that Sundowns have goalscoring issues

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Pitso Mosimane was satisfied with his side’s slender win over a dogged Chippa United but admits that goal scoring continues to be a cause for concern.

Sundowns claimed a 1-0 win over the Chilli Boys, courtesy of a superb first half Gaston Sirino strike.

However, the 1-0 score line could have been worse especially in the first half as Sundowns completely dominated proceedings and watched several chances go begging.

“They pushed us. They put five people upfront. So, when they put five what are you going to do? We also put five,” Mosimane told SuperSport TV.

“It’s difficult we had to use the experience of Kekana and Andile [Jali]. But when they push everybody out, our transition from the back was not good. We should punish them because they are putting a lot of people upfront,” he added.

“The goal we scored against Bloemfontein Celtic. We should do that. But our passing was not right,” Mosimane reflected.

Furthermore, Mosimane explained his decision to bring on the likes of Tiyani Mabunda and Jeremy Brockie among others in the second half.

“We just needed fresh legs. I needed Mabunda to come and help Andile and Kekana in the midfield. Andile Jali showed great leadership, he is really getting to his level. Lebo [Maboe] was also losing balls on the sides. He was looking good, but not biting,” he explained.

“A very difficult game but at the end of the day we came to PE and got three points,” Mosimane said.

“The first 20 minutes, the quality was there. But Sundowns, they are good people. They are not shrewd. We should have wrapped it up in the first half,” he lamented.

“Sundowns, we are good people, my team doesn’t know how to score goals,” Mosimane concluded.

While the win catapulted Sundowns up the Premier Soccer League (PSL) table, they have managed just nine goals in eight games.

Mosimane will hope that his side can change their fortunes around as next up they have a Telkom Knockout quarter-final against Baroka.
