Nwosu clamours for more ex-internationals in Copa Coca Cola competition

The ex-Eagles star has praised the organizers of the annual competition but he noted that more ex-players are needed in the competition.

Former Super Eagles coach, Henry Nwosu, MON has charged the organizers of the Copa Coca Cola to extent invitation to more ex-footballers who can also impart their knowledge of the game to the youths.

Nwosu who made his debut for the then Green Eagles as a teenager in the 80s disclosed that giving more ex-internationals the opportunity to serve the people will make them forget about their boredom and it will enable the children to learn firsthand what they must do to excel as footballers.

''I want to clamour for the invitation of more ex-internationals so that we can impart our knowledge to young ones. We have many ex-internationals who presently have nothing doing and programme like this one will help them remember some of the things they have done in the time past,” Nwosu told Goal.

“The boys are doing fine and they are showing signs of intelligence. It goes to show that Coca Cola is helping to groom Nigerians. Some of our national team players have taken part in this competition where they were discovered. I want to thumbs up Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) and Nigeria School Sports Federation (NSSF) for doing a good job helping Coca Cola to actualize their objective of bringing Nigerian youth together to play the game they love so much.”

The former Gateway United coach however counseled the children against engaging in any act that could jeopardize their future like abandoning their studies because of their love for the sport but he pointed out that if they are groomed well both education and football can go together without any harm being done.

“We have got some of them into the national teams. My advice to them is that they should not because of football forget about their education. Football and education can go together but what is important is that you don’t leave your book for any reason. You must be disciplined, be determined and focus your attention on your education,” he added.

Nwosu along with ex-internationals like Tajudeen Disu, Sunny Ndubuisi Opara Ekeocha, Henry Nwosu, Emma Osigwe and Ben Nwosu all took part during the coaching clinic for students in the first day of activities at the Copa Coca Cola zonal playoffs in Owerri.
