Move over playmakers, 2017 is set to be the year of the striker with Nike's Hypervenom III ready to cut through defences all over the globe.
But Nike's latest boot, which will be in Australian stores on February 2, is striking a blow for the number 9 - the pure goal-scorer.
While some pundits have declared that the old-fashioned centre-forward is dead, some of the world's deadliest strikers are set to inspire the next generation with their use of Nike's Hypervenom III.
Four of the world's leading number 9s - Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski, Borussia Dortmund's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Tottenham's Harry Kane and Gonzalo Higuain of Juventus - will all be striking a pose in the Electric Green and Hyper Orange boots this year.
Like all Nike's boots, the Hypervenom III focuses on comfort, lightness and enhancing touch, with one particular feature set to have strikers salivating.
The boot's upper - made completely from Flyknit for the first time - ensures it remains supple, while the integration of multi-layered Poron foam pods will strike fear into defenders worldwide.
The pods are speed dependent, meaning they dampen a player's touch at low velocity but become rigid at high velocity to maximise a strike on goal.
With football faster and more compact than ever before, the Hypervenom's focus on enhancing a player's first touch and ability to shoot from all angles and distances cuts right to heart of what being a striker is all about.
