Musa Nyatama: Orlando Pirates have the team to win the league

Having helped Orlando Pirates to finish second in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) last season, midfielder Musa Nyatama says he is targeting his maiden PSL title.

The former Maritzburg United midfielder was voted as the club’s best performer at the end of the season awards last week.

Nyatama walked away with the Player of the Season, Players’ Player of the Season and Fan Player of the Season awards, but he said personal glory is not important to him.

The Daveyton-born player said he wants to win his first league medal with the Sea Robbers because they have a squad capable of dethroning Mamelodi Sundowns.

Having joined the Soweto giants from Bloemfontein Celtic at the beginning of the previous term, the ex-Brazilians midfielder delivered stellar performances for Pirates.

Nyatama was a regular in the Pirates midfield and bagged a number of man of the match awards as they pushed the Brazilians to the finishing line as far as the title race was concerned.

Apart from winning awards at the club, he was also nominated for the 2017/19 PSL Player and Midfielder of the Season accolades.

As they regrouped for the 2018/19 PSL term, coach Milutin Sredojevic took his men to Nelspruit where they set up their training base before jetting off to Zambia.

They played a number of friendlies in Zambia against the likes of TP Mazembe, Forest Rangers and Power Dynamos, and the 30-year-old says they learned a lot in their trip.

“I’ve never won a league title and that’s the one goal that drives me every season,” said Nyatama as quoted by the Daily Sun.

“These personal achievements will never be enough if I don’t have a league medal,” said the midfielder.

“We have the team to win the league. Through dedication and commitment, we can achieve all our goals in the new season,” he continued.

“We had a good trip out there. We learned a lot in a short period and we can’t wait for the season to begin,” Nyatama concluded.

Apart from the league, Sredojevic’s men will also participate in the MTN8 Cup, Telkom Knockout Cup, Nedbank Cup as well as in the Caf Champions League.
