Osorio names preliminary roster featuring Rafa Marquez, Giovani dos Santos

Mexico coach Juan Carlos Osorio has included Rafa Marquez in his 32-man preliminary roster for May's friendlies and June's World Cup qualification matches despite injury concerns continuing to cloud the future of the 38-year-old.

"Keeping in mind that he's training with his club, individually, but he's training. We're going to work to decide when he's ready to be on the field," Osorio said at Tuesday's news conference. "This is a decision the medical staff will make."

Marquez has not seen minutes since suffering a back injury in Mexico's 2-0 win over Costa Rica in a March World Cup qualifier, later undergoing surgery set to keep him out for around five weeks, a time period that will elapse later this week.

While he will draw from this roster for his final Confederations Cup squad, Osorio said his focus with this group of players is the two friendlies his team is playing later this month and June's home World Cup qualifiers against Honduras and the United States.
