Mathare United midfielder Ahmed Ahmad is targeting four more goals with the 'Slum Boys' after a long struggling with a knee injury last season.

Ahmed finally scored his maiden goal after six games since his 2018 debut against Zoo in the round of 17, a goal that he termed as a ‘perfect way to crown a long journey’ to full fitness.

“My target is to score at least five goals before the end of the season,” said Ahmed.

The youthful midfielder, who was drafted into the senior team in 2017, had less than ten appearances in his first season at the club after suffering a second-degree meniscus tear on his left knee.

Having maintained his place for four consecutive matches, Ahmed finally opened his account for Mathare in the 1-1 draw against Vihiga United.

“I knew I will score even before the ball touched the net because I got my first touch right so it was all about beating the keeper.

“It feels nice because it has been a long and tough journey. I have been positive all along patiently waiting for my chance. I am happy that I have finally found the net.

Ahmed observes that competition for a place in the squad has kept him going.

“There is high competition in midfield because everybody is equally good. If you don’t give a good performance you can easily lose your place.

Mathare are third on the table with 31 points, nine behind leaders Gor Mahia who hit the 40-point mark with a victory against Nzoia Sugar.
