At age 22, the midfielder has gone from strength to strength this season, further cementing his reputation as one of Malaysia's best midfielders.

He played an integral role at Pahang in a season that saw them finish runners up in the Super League and the FA Cup.

He made a total of 34 appearances for the Elephants, 30 of them as a starter, and scored one goal throughout the season.

At the international stage, Azam also helped Malaysia U23 win the silver medal at the 2017 SEA Games, while later earning a call-up to the senior national team. He however has yet to  make his debut for the Harimau Malaya.

Although silverware has eluded Azam's grasp in 2017, there is no doubt that bigger things are in the horizon for the Pahang midfielder, and that he has earned his place as Goal's MSL2017 Most Promising Player.
