Mathare United have received a major boost ahead of the 2018 Kenyan Premier League kickoff on February 3.

The ‘Slum Boys’ welcomed back the club’s first choice goalkeeper, Wycliffe Kasaya from a long lay off with an injury.

Kasaya resumed training on Tuesday after spending three months on the sidelines due to a nagging knee problem.

The injury kept former Gor Mahia custodian out of action since September 2017 after he sustained a first-degree meniscus tear in his left knee.

"It feels good to be back. It has not been easy with the surgery and the recovery. It has taken a lot of sacrifices to reach here. I had to train throughout the Christmas holidays so that I would be ready to join the rest in January. I thank God for this far I have come,” Kasaya told the club’s official website after his first training session on Tuesday.

Kasaya will have to work on his fitness as he looks forward to a league opener against Vihiga United on February 4.

“I will be ready to play in two to three weeks. We have a target as a team but personally, I will be fighting to be in the first 11 or the first 18.

Kasaya will be expected to lead a youthful department that has Mark Kioko and Job Ochieng; who was promoted to the senior team this year.
