Stanley Okumbi is back as Harambee Stars head coach, albeit on a temporary basis.

Okumbi is set to fully take charge of Harambee Stars ahead of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers following the sudden resignation of Paul Put on Monday. Kenya will host Black Stars of Ghana early September.

Put resigned from his position with over one and a half years still left on his contract having penned a two-year contract with Football Kenya Federation last November.

“Football Kenya Federation wishes to inform the general public that Paul Put has officially resigned as the Kenya National Football Team, Harambee Stars Head Coach, citing personal reasons.

“In light of the foregoing, FKF has already begun the process of finding a suitable replacement to fill Put’s position, with Stanley Okumbi taking charge of the national team in the interim period,' said FKF in a statement obtained by Goal.

The exit of the Belgian will be a lifeline for Okumbi whose future was thrown into doubt after Put recommended to FKF to hire ‘more qualified coaches’ in the backroom staff; a move that could have seen Okumbi lose his position.

Okumbi was demoted to the assistant role following the appointment of Put four months ago.
