The Valley Parade outfit have announced the acquisition of the midfielder thus, becoming the ninth played recruited by the club this summer

Hope Akpan has joined English League One side Bradford City on a free transfer after signing a two-year contract.

The midfielder spent last season with Burton Albion in the Championship but was unable to rescue them from the drop despite scoring twice in 29 appearances.

The former Everton player became the ninth acquisition by the side this summer and has already teamed up with the rest of the squad at their pre-season Cheshire training camp.

Head Coach Michael Collins is delighted with the arrival of the 26-year-old and is optimistic that he will add ‘strong physical presence’ to their already ‘quality’ midfield.

"We are really pleased to get Hope into the building,” Collins told club website.

"We already had excellent quality in that area (midfield), but Hope will add to that whilst also offering a strong physical presence.

"The intensity of the league demands we have quality in all departments to cope, and we feel like we are getting there now."

Akpan could play a part when Bradford City face Guiseley in their first pre-season game at Nethermoor Park on July 10.
