In the end, the top two Malaysia Premier League sides; Kuala Lumpur and Terengganu left no room for last-minute drama.
Needing a win in their respective round 21 matches to secure their places in the 2018 Super League with one league round to spare, the two sides did just that on Tuesday.
Kuala Lumpur, playing at home to a resurgent Sabah, recorded a 2-0 win thanks to Brazilian target man Guilherme de Paula's brace; scored in the 14th and 55th minute.
Terengganu; also playing at home, put PDRM to the sword with a by-the-book 3-0 win. Their goals were scored by Faiz Nasir (19'), Tchetche Kipre (35') and Issey Nakajima-Farran (57').
The wins also snuffed out the promotion hopes of third-placed Negeri Sembilan and fourth PKNP FC. Although Negeri recorded a 1-0 home win over UiTM FC on the same day thanks to Lee Tuck's 32nd minute goal, their 41 points are too far adrift of the two teams' 44.
Although PKNP's round 21 match; away to Kuantan will only be played on Wednesday, they are currently on 40 points, which means that they cannot unseat neither Kuala Lumpur nor Terengganu even if they win both of their last two league encounters.
What remains to be contested in the final round of the league is the Premier League title. Kuala Lumpur will play away to JDT II, while Terengganu too will play on the road; against PKNP. However, fans will have to wait exactly a month in order to find out who the champions will be; as the M-League will give way to the international break as well as the Malaysia Cup. Matchday 22 of the Premier League will only be played on October 27.
