Komphela rues missed chances following Kaizer Chiefs' defeat to Polokwane City

Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela left the Peter Mokaba Stadium a frustrated man after seeing his side fall to Polokwane City on a rainy night.

“First half, we could’ve wrapped it up. I thought we played well, the only thing needed was to take the chances we created,” Komphela said post-match.

He bemoaned how they failed to penetrate City's defence and play the ball more quicker whenever they were on the ascendancy for the better part of the game.

“Maybe one thing we could’ve done better was to play it more quicker forward and try penetrate more. Each time we got in, you could see the central part was closed,” Komphela continued.

“We then needed to go wider because there was a stage where ‘Tight’ (Joseph Molangoane) was running on top and needed to make a decision to go wide and cut back. Those are the defining moments in a match,” Komphela said.

Former Jomo Cosmos and Mamelodi Sundowns defender Thapelo Tshilo scored the only goal of the game, capitalizing on some poor marking from the Glamour Boys.

Komphela believes they should have handled the situation better, but lauded Rise and Shine for their sterling display on the night.

“I thought we defended poorly on the corner. We don’t normally concede from corner kicks. Last season, we conceded a lot. This season only once. We could’ve done better,” Komphela said.

“Congratulations to them. They fought for it. They had the energy, and unfortunately with us we didn’t take the chances we had or advantage of the situations we created,” Komphela further lamented.
