Kolkata Derby: East Bengal’s Khalid Jamil - We should have been more defensive

The former Aizawl FC coach mentioned that he won't throw in the towel just yet…

East Bengal suffered their second defeat of the I-League season at the hands of Mohun Bagan on Sunday afternoon. Dipanda Dicka’s two first half goals sealed three crucial points for the Green and Maroon side as they moved to the fourth position on the table.

Coach Khalid Jamil acknowledged his team’s fallacies and took all the blame. He also stated that his team should have been more defensive in their approach as they couldn’t contain the likes of Dicka and Akram Moghrabi.

“100 per cent it is my mistake and I admit. There are no excuses and we have done mistakes. I take the blame. It was an overall mistake as our preparation was not good. We couldn’t tackle their attack and should have been more defensive.

“I deserve to take the pressure and East Bengal certainly do not deserve to be in this situation,” said Jamil.

However, the former Mumbai FC coach mentioned that he wouldn’t resign just yet and would want to rectify the situation the club finds itself in. In the last five I-League matches, East Bengal have only won a single game.

“I don’t want to be a coward. Instead I would take responsibility and fight back. I cannot say about the I-League title race at this moment. I am not stepping down,” said Jamil.

The former India international pointed that leaking in a goal inside the first minute was the turning point of the match.
