Kaizer Chiefs leading Orlando Pirates in race for Ajax Cape Town captain Mosa Lebusa's signature

Kaizer Chiefs are leading their rivals Orlando Pirates in the race for Ajax Cape Town defender Mosa Lebusa's signature.

The 25-year-old player is one of the most sought after players in the current Premier Soccer League (PSL) transfer window which opened over the weekend.

Lebusa, who is the Ajax captain, has attracted interest from Chiefs and Pirates, while PSL champions Mamelodi Sundowns are said to be monitoring his situation at the Urban Warriors.

Goal spoke to an Ajax insider‚ who spoke on condition of anonymity regarding the player's potential exit from the Ikamva-based side.

"Well, the player is still with the team. He is training with the rest the squad, but a transfer to another club remains a big possibility," the source told Goal

Recent reports have indicated that Pirates are the favourites to sign Lebusa, who was one of Ajax's key players as the team battled relegation last season.

However, the impeccable source stated that the left-footed player would prefer a transfer to Bucs' Soweto giants, Amakhosi.

"Chiefs remain in pole position to sign him. The player would also prefer a move to Chiefs amidst all the transfer rumours," the source continued.

Two months ago, Ajax were relegated to the National First Division (NFD) when they were docked points for illegally fielding Zimbabwean striker Tendai Ndoro.

However, the Western Cape High Court ruled in favour of the Urban Warriors on Monday after the club had asked the court to set aside that decision.

The ruling also restored the Urban Warriors’ points and reinstated their 15th place finish (promotion/relegation play-offs place) on the PSL standings.

This also means that the PSL are forced to replay the promotion/relegation play-offs which Black Leopards won.

"Mosa will definitely leave Ajax if the club eventually goes down to the NFD because he is too good for that league," the source concluded.

Lebusa, who is still contracted to the Urban Warriors until 2019, netted four goals in 28 league matches last season.
