The South African senior national team have been without a head coach since Shakes Mashaba was fired back in December.

It was reported that the South African Football Association (Safa) were waiting on the return of president Danny Jordaan. The 65-year-old was in Gabon as part of Caf president Issa Hayatou’s advisory committee.

With Jordaan now back in the country, it has been confirmed that he will sit down with the Safa technical committee on Saturday and discuss the appointment of a new coach at the helm of the national team.

“There are a lot of candidates who have approached us‚ I have spoken myself to several and we will go through all of this at a meeting‚” Jordaan told Times Media.

The former Port Elizabeth mayor has also revealed that there have been many coaches who have expressed interest in South African football’s top job.

“There is no shortage of people who want to coach South Africa. They know the potential we have in the country‚” Jordaan concluded.

Jordaan is reportedly hopeful to name a new coach by the end of February as Bafana Bafana are set to play two friendlies in March, in preparation for the upcoming 2019 African Cup of Nations and 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifiers later this year.
