Following up with the signing of centre back Mauricio, Johor Darul Ta'zim have now added some firepower up front with the capture of Aaron Niguez.

JDT continues beefing up their squad ahead of their first foray into the AFC Champions League (ACL) in the 2019 season by confirming the signing of Aaron Niguez from Spanish club Real Oviedo. The announcement comes just two days before the draw for the ACL will be made and JDT find out who their group opponents are.

The 29-year-old Niguez was once listed by World Soccer Magazine back in 2007 at number 33 in their list of "Top 50 Most Exciting Teenage Footballers". He was even voted ahead of more illuminating names such as Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez and Ivan Rakitic in the list.

His career however has not panned out the way his more illustrious compatriots have done but the former Spain Under-21 player has managed to make a decent career for himself since graduating from the academy at Valencia C.F. in 2007.

Loans spells in Greece, Scotland and Spain would follow before Niguez eventually left Valencia for Almeria in 2011. It was there at Almeria that Niguez established himself as a prominent winger and was snapped up by Elche CF in 2013, a club which he helped win promotion to the Primera Division.

Niguez featured prominently for Elche in the top flight of Spanish football, making 42 appearances for the club based in Alicante over the course of the next two seasons before Sporting Braga from Portugal came calling for his signature.

However the move abroad only lasted one season and once again Niguez found himself back in the Segunda Division, this time with CD Tenerife in the 2016-17 season. Making 27 starts for the club that got into the promotion play-off, Niguez was on the move again the following season.

Oviedo a club who had produced the likes of Santi Cazorla and Juan Mata, snapped up Niguez with the ambidextrous player forcing himself firmly into the plans of manager Juan Antonio Anquela. Niguez made 31 starts while producing five goals in the 2017-18 season.

While it is a free transfer for JDT to get Niguez, his qualities would have been well known with the possibility of Ignacio 'Natxo' Insa feeding some information gained during their encounters in the 2016-17 season in the Segunda Division.

Niguez who comes from a family of footballers with two of his siblings also involved in the professional game. Jonathan also played in the lower reaches of the Spanish pyramid but undoubtedly the best of the lot is Saul Niguez who is now not only one of the key players in Diego Simeone's Atletico Madrid but also for the senior Spain national team.

With the end of the loan period for Fernando Elizari and Fernando Marquez, JDT need to ensure that they add to their attacking options and Niguez will bring with him plenty of European football experience. The arrival of Niguez means that there will be just one spot left to be filled and that is likely to be a striker as JDT look to complete the cast of 2019.
