New Everton manager Marco Silva has been quick to reassure club captain Phil Jagielka about his place in the team, but also indicated that Muhamed Besic could still leave the club.
Silva took over at Goodison Park this summer following Sam Allardyce's departure and has quickly gone about recruiting reinforcements ahead of the new Premier League season.
Yerry Mina, Andre Gomes, Richarlison and Bernard are just a few of the new names that have been brought in by the club over the last couple of months as Everton aim to improve on last season's eighth-place finish.
Kurt Zouma has also now joined from Chelsea, but Silva insists the new defensive arrivals will not change Jagielka’s status at the club.
“It means nothing for Jags [signing two centre-backs],” said Silva.
“We sold Mori, Williams and bought Mina and Zouma. Everything is the same.
“Even last season the club brought in Mangala. We needed to bring in new centre-backs after Mori and Williams left.”
Silva is also waiting for developments on Besic’s future after the midfielder say a proposed move to Middlesbrough fall through at the last minute before a deal could be finalised on deadline day.
“We will see what happens in the future." Silva continued.
“When something happens we will let you know. At the moment they are our players.
“Tomorrow we stop talking about the players.
“With Besic something happened between the club and the agent, I don’t know what happened. Everything was agreed between the clubs.”
Silva also confirmed that two of Everton's newest signings, Mina and Bernard, will not feature in Saturday’s opening Premier League game against Wolves having only just arrived at the club.
He said: "I’m ready. I’m happy. It’s been a hard-working year but everyone is happy at the club.
“Everyone has a smile on their face. As a club and a squad we are more than ready.”
