Ghana yet to confirm captain for Kenya clash, says Tanko

Ghana assistant coach Ibrahim Tanko has denied reports that Inter Milan midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah will be wearing the captain's armband against Kenya in the 2019 Afcon qualifier on Saturday.

Following the absence of captain Asamoah Gyan and assistant Andre Ayew from the Black Stars since September last year, Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Teye Partey has filled the void as the team’s captain.

However, earlier reports suggested that due to Asamoah's availability, coach Kwesi Appiah has chosen him to wear the armband since he is the most senior player currently in the squad.

"As coaches, we have not decided who will captain the team against Kenya. That decision will be taken on Friday evening after training," Tanko told Fox FM.

"Thomas Partey has been the captain in recent time due to the absence of Asamoah Gyan and Andre Ayew. However, Kwadwo Asamoah is now around and we've heard a lot of people reporting that he has been given the captaincy but that reports are untrue.

"We will have a meeting and bring out who wears the armband and lead us to victory before kickoff tomorrow," he added.

Ghana top Group F of the qualifiers with three points, while Kenya are third with no point.
