Ghana will benefit from World Cup qualifiers disappointments, says Polo

Former Ghana and Hearts of Oak midfielder Mohammed Ahmed Polo believes Kwesi Appiah will pick the positives from their failure to qualify to 2018 Fifa  World Cup.

The Black Stars shared the spoils goalless with Uganda last week, leaving them four points behind Egypt who have qualified from Group E, with one game to end the qualifiers.

And Polo, who won the 1978 Africa Cup of Nations title with Ghana, believes Appiah will have enough time to form a formidable side to win the 2019 Afcon and also make it to the   2022 World Cup.

''It is a blessing in disguise [for Ghana after the failure to qualify to the World Cup next year]," Polo told Ghanacrusader.

"It will give the coach the needed time to prepare for the Africa Cup of Nations in 2019 and the World Cup in 2022 which will be hosted by Qatar.

''The coach will now plan adequately for that, because it is very important we plan with the new players. They will have to come in and prove a lot of things," he added.

Ghana have won the Afcon title on four occasions but last lifted the trophy in 1982 despite reaching the semi-finals on six consecutive times since 2008.
