Last two national league champions will meet in French Super Cup ahead of big league kick off

There is a lot of buzz around French football right now, perhaps not surprisingly. No sooner have the Blues won their second World Cup crown than preparations are being made for the domestic season, with the country’s two biggest clubs set to go head to head in the season opener.

PSG and Monaco will meet in the French Super Cup on Friday, 3 August. The two teams have won the last two editions off Ligue 1, the first division of the national domestic league, and it is a fitting way to kick off the new campaign.

Where can I win money in this tie?

Right now, PSG and Monaco are the two biggest things about French club football. They have done more than any to try and drag French sides up to a level on par with other European elites, albeit with varying levels of success.

But it is the current French league champions, PSG, who come into this Super Cup tie as the favourites to win the first piece of silverware in the domestic season. You can back the club from the French capital at just 1.44 to walk away from this one victorious, according to Oddsshark.

Meanwhile, the price for Monaco to win this curtain raiser is as high as 6.00. A draw is also priced high at 4.75, and if early indications are anything to go by this whole domestic season looks to be tilted in the favour of PSG, especially given their transfer activity during the summer transfer window.

PSG are at the very short price of just 1.10 to win the league title for a second season in a row. To put that into perspective, there is no other club whose odds are in single figures to take the league crown, with Lyon at 13.00, and both Monaco and Marseille priced at 15.00 the closest supposed rivals for the league title.

The strength in depth of this PSG side just looks far too strong for their competitors. With Neymar and newly crowned World Cup winner Kylian Mbappé in attack, expect to see goals in this one.

It is of course never easy to try and predict the exact score line of any given game, but given PSG’s expected dominance in this tie it is surely worth a try. A 3-0 win for the reigning league champions is priced at 12.00, meaning a US$5 initial bet would land a payout of US$60.

A win of that magnitude would result in over 2.5 goals being scored in the tie and that is another area where money could be made in this one. Over 2.5 goals is priced short at just 1.40, although you could almost triple your investment by backing under 2.5 goals at 2.87.

PSG will no doubt want to lay down a marker of their dominance, a signal of intent for the season ahead. With that in mind they could well come racing out of the blocks here and try to take an early lead.

The price for PSG to be ahead after only 10 minutes is 5.00, while Monaco are at double that to be ahead early on. You can also bet on an early goal being scored for either side – over 0.5 goals in the first 10 minutes is priced enticingly at 3.50.

Backing PSG to win a match, even one of this magnitude and so early on in the season, is arguably the easier part. The key to earning bigger payouts is to be more specific in your betting.

It may well be worth backing the champions to win this one to nil, meaning Monaco fail to score in the game. Such an outcome is priced at 3.00, again offering you the chance to triple your initial investment.

PSG to win both halves is also priced competitively at 3.25, while you can almost double your money to back them to score in both halves as well, at a price of 1.90. But this one could really come down to goals, goals and more goals – under two in the game is high at 6.00, two or three is priced at 2.25, while over three comes in even shorter at 2.00.

Odds: PSG (1.44), Monaco (6.00), draw (4.75)
